Ben Stine...Obama was talking about the money not the meeting!

Did you watch Ben Stine
on the Sunday Morning Show (CBS) this today? Stine took exception to
Presidents Obama outrage over business junkets for $400,000.  His take
was that Obama essentially killed the travel industry by making
$400,000 seem like over indulgence. It seems that business people took
his admonition to heart and simply canceled all their meeting!  Talk
about throwing the baby out with the bath water.  Good heavens people,
have you ever hear of having a business meeting without a spa
treatment???

I keep on reminding everyone that those businesses that have been given a reprieve using tax dollars are PUBLIC EMPLOYEES.
Pay attention.  Those of us that have worked in public service could
teach you a thing or two about how to have a meeting, stay in a hotel
and travel (a reasonable distance) without breaking the kids piggy bank
open.  Here are some lessons that you could learn.

  • You do not get to play golf on the company dime.
  • You do not visit the spa on the company dime.
  • You do not eat out at fancy restaurants (unless you pay part of the expense) on the company dime.
  • You company sets a dollar amount for hotel rooms and you figure it out.
  • You meet online or travels economy...boys and girls it is NOT a vacation.
  • No meeting will be held in Las Vegas unless it is the most economical choice.
  • Employee are given dollar amounts for all expenses.  If they chose
to bring the wife/husband along, they do it on their own money.
  • Retreats can be held in town...be creative.

Resort areas might try paying attention too.  They would be well
served to get over it.  Big business has driven the cost of everything
up in these areas.  Vacationing has become such a luxury that no one
can afford to play golf or stay in a resort because big business was
willing to pay outlandish amounts for golf, rooms, dining....you get
the picture.  The free ride is over...for resorts and for the
executives!  Take less profit and include the tax payers in your
industry.

Our government could learn a thing or two as well.  The
one thing that comes to mind is the write-off on our taxes.  Could it
be the the federal government actually encourages these types of
behavior by allowing businesses and CEOs to write off golf games for
hundreds of dollars and expensive meals as "business related"
deductions?

So Ben Stine were you really listening to the
words?  President Obama was NOT talking about the meeting...he was
talking about the $400,000 dollars.  PERIOD!!!!

Just a thought.
