Best Revenge After Leaving an Abusive Marriage

One might think that the best revenge after leaving an abusive marriage includes candles, incense, sacrificing a small animal, bumping into the ex with a VERY handsome man on your arm, or, um well, something illegal...but it's NOT.  The best revenge is getting your life back in order, as fast as you can, to show that he no longer has any power over you and your decisions.  As part of the "month from hell", he forced me to resign from a fulltime, permanent position I held at a university...who on earth resigns from an international-known university?!   Especially someone with young kids, when one of the benefits is free tuition for children of staff?  I am having the best revenge on Tuesday, August 3rd: I start a new job!!!

Not only is it a contract position for maternity leave coverage (which is a year here in Canada), there are so many "petty" little things that makes the revenge that much sweeter...

  • it's full time
  • it's a year-long contract
  • it's in my former career...which happens to be the same field he's in, just a different specialty
  • I will be making MORE money than he does
  • best of all: he applied for this EXACT same position 3 years ago, and didn't even get an interview

I know these are all very petty things, but I am finding great enjoyment in them!

So, in preparation for this revenge, I have bought new clothing (none of my professional clothing fits after the "divorce diet".  I know, rough life...may have bought a few new heels too...), decluttered a bit at home, filled up the van with gas for the week, gone grocery shopping, bought enough containers for packing lunches, and even a new notebook and pens.  I know they will provide that...I'm just that much of a geek!  I asked for a package of materials to peruse before I start the job, and finished reading them this morning so, overall, I'm feeling ready to have my revenge...and get back into my former career, which I didn't think would happen until my kids are older.

I'm even hoping that my new employer won't have had the chance to send out the "Sorry, but we've gone with another candidate" form letter so I can see if he applied for the position again.   But even that's not enough because I'm hoping I can sign the letter myself...reject him personally and professionally.  I think that might be bit too greedy though...what do you think?

So, please raise a glass, and here's to the best revenge someone can have!  Cheers!
