Like some people have a soft spot for Christmas music, I'll always love the creepy-kitschy tunes rolled out on Halloween. Now, I like "Werewolves of London" as much as the next ghoul, but sometimes I want my Halloween playlist to have a little more hipster cool. Last year I did fashion a short playlist from Last.FM's vast catalog. (You can find Halloween-themed songs by searching for ones other members have tagged as "Halloween" or "spooky.") One caveat: you have to be a subscriber to make "tag" stations. (But at three dollars a month, it's painless.) IMEEM is another place to set up playlists.

In the spirit of the season, I thought it would be fun to share with you some creepy songs (some are feature currently here ). I know there are many more out there, so feel free to share your favorites, too. Trick or treat and Happy Halloween! :-)
WFMU's Beware of the Blog is a fabulous place for atypical, yet still scary music during Halloween. They've gotten an early start with Wednesday with their Vinyl Finds Halloween Special: Zacherle Singles:
Zacherle (aka Zacherley) had been a TV horror-film host in ghoul makeup for most of the 1950s and early 60s (there are several clips on YouTube), and in the early days of FM's popularity he was an innovator of free-form radio, when WPLJ was called WABC-FM. Though PLJ's programming was fairly structured by the late 1970s, the form was still much freer than the computerized formats seen on the commercial FM band today.
Venerable radio station, KEXP, in the spirit of Halloween, tells us the Cure (yes, they're still around) has a new record out:
