Beyond Snapshots- Take your fancy camera off auto
My friend Rachel Devine and her photography partner, Peta Mazey are writing a book. The tentative title is Beyond Snapshots - Take your fancy camera off auto.
Rachel is coming to Blogher this year- all the way from Australia. I think she should do a session about photography.
I think Rachel's session should be based on the same idea as the book- The idea is that it used to be that only professional photographers had professional cameras, but now every other household has a professional level camera. This is especially true in the blogging community. However, most people don't know how to use their camera and just shoot on auto. The session will not just be technical jargon, it will be a down to earth session interjected with humor. Rachel will also touch on how to use photography to improve your blog.
Rachel has been a photographer for many years (http://racheldevine.com/). She specializes in child photography. After many years in Los Angeles, Rachel now lives in Australia with her husband, and three children (a five year old and 15 month old twins).
She is one of the most popular photographers on Flickr- she has over 11 million page views (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sesameellis/). In a little over a year since she has been blogging, Rachel already gets about 50,000 hits a month (http://www.racheldevine.com/blog/) and she has over 1,200 fans on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/sesameellis?ref=search&sid=692683735.1046690420..1). A couple of weeks ago Rachel launched the Beyond Snapshots blog (http://www.beyond-snapshots.com/blog/), and it already has quite a following.
Her work has appeared in People Magazine, Parenting Magazine, Popular Photography,The new M.I.L.K book and collection, The Photojojo book, LMNOP online magazine - melbourne photographer, among others. Clients include General Mills, Fox Studios (Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader), Phil & Teds, Target, The Little Gym, Ford Models, Catalyst Studios, The Richards Group.
She has received numerous awards including the 2000 United Parenting Publications top award for Magazine Cover Photography, and Blu Domain's Best Child Photographer of 2008.
She was also chosen to be featured in a Nikon Ad in American Photo Magazine in 2007.
I think Rachel's talent, technical knowledge, and large following make her a perfect person for a session at Blogher 10.
