So, as if fourth grade homework wasn't enough, we woke up this past Monday morning on our way to school to find that our car had been stolen! Yup, gone without a trace except for the skid marks they left behind. Unbelievably, it was taken right from my own driveway. You're probably wondering why it wasn't in the garage right? Well, the day before this happened, my husband decided to clean out the garage. He cleaned it and then we took off in his truck for the day. We got home late and decided to leave the car outside for one night. And on this one night, as things happen, it got stolen. Never would have thought it could happen living in an upscale neighborhood in the middle of BFE -- Easley, SC. Did I mention it was a corvette?? I'm still in shock. I feel so violated and unsafe. What's worse, the thieves were spinning the tires in my driveway, in the middle of the night, and we never heard a thing! People are so cruel. I know its just a car and the car isn't really the big issue here. Its that crime is everywhere, even in the places you'd least expect it. Anyway, they broke into my husband's truck also and stole his briefcase which had a checkbook in it. I had a wonderful time changing all of our bank accounts, ordering new checks and debit cards, changing the code on the garage remote, etc. I hate to think about it, but . . . what if, after breaking into our cars (and before stealing mine) the thieves decided to push the garage remote that everyone has in their cars and got into our house? When the police arrived, I asked if they were going to take pictures and finger prints off my husband's truck and this is the response I got "Mam, this is not CSI"; I kid you not! Later in the day a detective called me to say that 15 other cars were broken into in and around my area and 15 GPS's were taken but mine was the only car stolen. Well, here it is Wednesday and the police called to say they found my corvette, stripped of its parts and burned to the ground at some park in Clemson (a college town about 30 minutes south). So why am I sharing my story? So everyone wakes up and realizes that when you least expect it, in a place where you wouldn't imagine it, crime happens. So don't let your guard down for a second, or even for one night, like we did.
