Birth Control Reminder

I can't believe I never posted this story. I find it quite funny and have been meaning to share for a while, so here goes...

A few months ago Little Ricky were taking a plane ride home just the 2 of us. It's always easier to travel with him when Daddy's around, but this time it was just us. Little Ricky was not awful on this flight, but at times he got a little fussy. And as we were squooshed into the window seat on a very full flight there wasn't much I could do about it.

Sitting next to us was a young lady who was mid-20's tops. Unlike most folks we've flown with she didn't seem too interested in my beautiful bambino.

That is until he started to cry. At which point she looked at him, leaned down to pull something out of her purse and proceeded to take her birth control pill.

Now I ask you--am I taking it personally to think that my adorable child is what prompted the pill popping????

I think when we pop out our little bundles of joy a special mum fantasy gene is activated.  This gene allows us to imagine them as always being beautiful loving little creatures of pure joy.  Who'd have them if we knew they would turn into grunting obnoxious teenagers?  I always say every morning we spin the personality wheel to see what will emerge from the the dank teenage bedroom of doom.  Some days we get grumpy, other days mute, frequently know-it-all, occasionally a human emerges but you just never know.  Thank goodness we love them!

Sometimes I look at my cute little guy and think "someday he's going to be a stinky, attitude-y teenager!"  Right now I can't even picture it.  Maybe that's a blessing???

I often offer out my kids as contraception.  Mind you mine are 12 and 15 so I am in the delightful teenage stage and that is more of a contraception than a baby, at least they have somethng of the cute factor still.    So if anyone needs some eco contraception I am happy to pack off my two moody, grunting teenagers ANYWHERE!

It's funny, because "back in the day" it totally would have been me too.  Until I had my own little guy I was not too tolerant of other people's kiddos.  Yes, I'm the one who muttered "NAP TIME!" as I walked by screaming children at Target! Oops--payback's a bitch!  So I found the whole thing kind of amusing.

This totally could have been me, though I hope I would be less obvious about it. I'm just not a "kid" person. I can't imagine how hard it has to be to travel with a small child on a plane -- most of my friends have children, and I've heard their stories about the difficulties. However, seeing a child misbehaving (particularly if I'm seated next to the child in question) is a definite reminder that, if I don't want to have my own crying child, I'd better take precautions!

That being said, my barking dogs have SURELY discouraged a person or two from adopting puppies, so I can see both sides, just from a slightly different point of view.
