Blog Planning online - for those of us who lose notebooks
In trying to organize my blog, I have looked all around for a perfect blog planner / editorial calendar. While there are a TON of pretty printable and bound books with blog planning pages, info about working with PR, etc - I couldn't get away from the fact that I lose things... ALL THE TIME. The other struggle is that I like to re-sort things a lot - which leads to the re-writing of pages, throwing out of books etc...
So... how do I keep myself organized, and paper free? Todoist! It is something that I use for my company to keep track of my list of To-Dos - but when I considered it for my blog, I found a BUNCH of new uses!
Todoist is free unless you want the premium features. I upgraded (only $29 per year) so that I could do the following things to keep my blog organized:
- Made individual projects for all stuff - ex. Passwords, Website Maintenance, Blog Ideas, Partnerships, Blogs to read etc
- Within those sections you can make to-do lists that actually link to content - for example, I could add a blog to my read list and make the link right in the to-do!
- Using the Chrome Plug-in, you can easily add things to your list as you surf! Super handy!
- Making post checklists - this was the most important reason that I used Todoist - you are able to make a list and re-use it as a template. For each post that I plan for my blog, I make it a project in Todoist - then I have a list of all of the things I need to do - for example - post on Twitter, save for newsletter, shorten URL, etc. This way, if I do not finish everything in one sitting, I know where to start when I get back to the blog. I especially like this as there are several non-mainstream places that I re-post my blog posts and this way I can update it anytime! The best part is that you can put a date on tasks so that you remember to follow up later!
- Being in the cloud makes me happy - my to-do list is EVERYWHERE - on my phone, my iPad, my work and home computer. The beauty is that anytime I think of something, it is super simple to record it for later, or set myself a reminder!
