Yep, we had Thanksgiving at our house last week, but we didn't have no turkey. Shoot, down at Echol's Grocery, them turkeys cost nearly $5.00. Momma had me checking all week, when I gathered eggs, to see which one of them old hens wasn't laying. I finally picked out one and after me and daddy cleaned and dressed it, momma roasted that old hen up, and we played like it was one of the pilgrim turkeys. That chicken was kinda tough, but momma's cornbread dressing was, as usual, just plain outta sight.

I was never one of those women who pictured herself in a big white gown, walking down the aisle. For me it was more about getting married in Las Vegas by an Elvis impersonator on the Strip and having a great party in New York afterward.

My Five Favorite Thankgiving Foods

I am at the bottom of the ‘career’ options ladder now.  I feel pretty good here. Contrary to the misgiving of others and myself, it’s not been difficult, not numbing. Not easy … but easier than hard. One struggles while coming down the steps. Living high up on the ladder feels good. Bloody madness, but a kick all the same. It’s flattering. One’s ego begins to swell up into a personality so out of reach that one has to dig deep to find the reality. For a lucky few, the reality emerges from within. The struggle then is less prolonged, less exhausting.

Keeping The Balls Juggling In The Air

I had lunch with a close friend yesterday, and we were doing our usual lunch and chat, and chat, and chat. I love her, cuz she’s my no bullshit friend. We cut right to the chase. No small talk. Open hearts on the table, raw emotions. And for yesterday’s session, her feelings were that of many of us women, “I feel like I’m constantly keeping the balls in the air. The juggle never stops. Quite frankly, it’s exhausting.” Calling all jugglers and working moms!!
