You can get great video tutorials on how to compress video for the web using Windows Movie Maker and iMovie over at Freevlog if you prefer something more in-depth.

Of course, before you compress, you have to edit your video, so don't miss Robyn's editing tips!

Hi there, BlogHer '07 attendees. I'm really excited about presenting with Gena and Robyn in the Multimedia Advanced Video Lab on Day Two. I'd like to give you a little more information about the Advanced Video Lab. We'll be covering a wide range of topics designed to help you really rock as a VlogHer. Gena's put me to shame, already submitting three great posts to pique your interest in videoblogging.

First we're going to spend a little time giving you the lowdown on video compression and video file formats. We've also got advice on free or low-cost software for performing compression tasks. No, you do not need to be a geek to understand this stuff!

Next we'll break into rotating groups, so you can spend a little time with each of us as you chose. Gena will be helping you with storyboarding to help you plan your videos with efficiency and flair. Robyn will be sharing some fantastic tips and techniques on editing video - all the things she wished she had known when she started. And I'll be getting physical with you in a hands-on demonstration of inexpensive ways to get great lighting.

Although the Advanced Video Lab is geared toward folks who have already tried their hand at putting video on the web, attendees who are new to videoblogging are certainly welcome. For "newbies" it might be helpful for you to set up a practice video blog before the start of BlogHer, so that you can come get all your questions answered. Freevlog's tutorial (created by last year's speaker Ryanne Hodson) is a great place to get started.

Here's what we'd really like. If you're planning on coming to the Advanced Video Lab, let us know! Tell us what questions you'd like answered, and we'll be sure we're ready with the best answers we can give. Either leave a comment on this post or contact one of us directly. We want to help you meet your learning goals. Talk to us!
