This past week I took 5 flights in 5 days. I hate flying but it had to be done so I figured it would be a good chance to check out airlines and decide which I liked best. After all, I was flying three different airlines.

The first flight was uneventful. From Oakland to Ontario airport (LA) on Southwest. I had A28 to board, but it did me nothing because I was in conversation with someone at the bar while drinking a bloody mary and was not worried about what seat I would get. Anyway, very uneventful.

The next morning I flew Southwest again from Ontario back to Oakland. 7:45 a.m. flight that I wasn't looking forward to as I was tired and hungover from the wedding I attended the night before. That flight made my morning - and my day.

Living in the East Bay Area, I've attended many Raiders game and thought I had experienced Raider Nation but realized the moment I boarded this flight, I really hadn't. I didn't realize there were so many Raiders fans that lived in LA that flew up to Oakland every Sunday morning for home games! Everyone dressed in black and silver and opening beers at 8 in the morning should have made it enjoyable flight to begin with but it was really the flight attendants and pilots that did. They were so happy, cracking jokes, and really upbeat for so early in the morning. You could tell they liked their job. And even though it was only an hour flight they make sure to give you as many snacks and drinks as you would like. I think one of the flight attendants should have been a stand up comedian.

I landed in Oakland still laughing as hard as I had the past hour in the air. Happy and ready for my day to start, I walk over to the gate for my next flight, on Jet Blue. Talk about a contrast.

I used to be a big supporter of Jet Blue. The flight attendants always seemed so happy, and the airline always seemed like a better alternative than Southwest - just because they had everything Southwest had plus individual t.v.'s and sometimes cheaper rates. I walked up to the gate to check in only to stand there for about 5 minutes while the lady behind the counter just chatted it up with another employee. Finally the attendant decided to greet me - but definitely made me feel like I was being an inconvienence for checking in. I understand everything is electronic now and perhaps they don't get many people at the gate checking in these days but I wasn't about to walk out of the terminal to check in and go back through security!

anyway, I check in still bubbly from the happy flight before and get some breakfast. I board the plane to NYC that is going through Long Beach. The flight attendants give their speech and I'm of course tuning them out. After we take off they get back on the speaker, when all I'm trying to do is watch football on t.v. But I listen as they give their whole upsell speech on getting a Jet Blue American Express - thanks but no thanks. They then go on to tell us all the things they have to sell - blanket and pillow for $7, headsets for $1, etc... am I being forced to listen to an infomercial?!?

But then they go even one step further by walking up and down the aisles asking everyone if they want this stupid overpriced blanket/pillow set. Talk about interferring with the customer experience! The flight attendants then walk up and down, offering drinks and snacks, except unlike Southwest, when I ask for the chips AND biscotti, I get an evil glare by the flight attendant as if to say "how dare you ask for two things?" Southwest would give me the whole box if I wanted (a bit of exaggeration but you get the point). All the flight attendants on this flight were rude, unhappy and complete opposite of Southwest. If I was considering to apply at either Southwest or Jet Blue, Southwest would win because by this point all of the Jet Blue employees seem to seriously hate their job - from the lady at the gate to everyone on the plane.

Thankfully this flight is only an hour, and we land at Long Beach and I walk over to a different gate to change planes to go on to New York. Unfortuantely, I get to listen to the whole informercial yet again as the flight takes off to New York. To make matters worse, they turned off the t.v.'s just as Green Bay went into overtime. Obviously they are just doing their job and don't watch football and realize that the game has just gone into over time and Titans are making a drive. But no, I will patiently sit here and listen to the announcer tell me how much I want the American Express card and blanket/pillow set and headphones...

they finish and I quickly try to get the t.v. to work, but it won't. and once it comes back on, the game is over (Titans won). ok fine, I'll find something else to watch. However, just like the previous Jet Blue flight, half the channels don't work and the t.v. keeps losing signal. It's very frustrating to try to watch t.v. when the screen keeps going blue. Thankfully they have to reset the t.v.'s which makes the movies that normally cost $5 free, so I watch two movies and don't have to worry abou the t.v. channels. Just like the first flight, these attendants don't seem to care for their job and are not very happy. Except for one nice lady attendant who gave me a free Mascara while waiting the bathroom. She said it was some promotion. I'll happily take it, but think to myself that I wouldn't be surprise if they start selling these Great Lash mascaras on my next flight - right along side the blanket/pillow set.

A couple of days later I am flying home from New York City to San Francisco and board a Virgin America flight. I've never flown them before and have always wanted to try them out since an English friend of mine talked so highly about Virign - and while this isn't Virgin exactly, it is a sister company. I get on the plane and the lights are all dimmed and blue. It made me feel like I was in a night club. Interesting I think to myself. I can't find a place for my bag and look up and down the aisle and can't seem to find a flight attendant. Turns out the guy standing in all black that I thought was a passenger was actually a flight attendant. I ask for his help, and he moves some stuff around to get me a spot right above my head! Awesome!

Virgin America doesn't have a person come on and talk. They show a funny cartoon. Nice touch to tell the outdated FAA regulations (they really need to reconsider them!). The girl next to me orders a movie before we have even left the runway and I was shocked - but impressed that for once you didn't have to wait until like 15 min in the air. As soon as we take off, I start messing around with my t.v. Food, movies, music, t.v., games, and soon to be wi-fi - I could have played with it all the entire flight. The food and drink selection alone are so robust! and the movies are not just three movies to choose from but a really long list of recent movies and t.v. shows. Of course all the movies cost money but I love the selection. To order all you need to do is punch it in on your screen, swip your card and within a minute, the flight attendant has brough it to you. I'm in love. My co-worker orders good champagne and a fruit and cheese plate that looked delicious! I got a couple glasses of red wine and was surprised to see it was Wente (a local Livermore wine). The seats are remarkably comfortable with cushioned headrests. The t.v. never went out as it did on Jet Blue, and I had all the channels (unlike Jet Blue) but I still watched a movie and took a little nap, I was so comfortable. I woke up and created a playlist of music to listen to. They have a wide selection of musicians and you can select songs and create your own. Much better than just listening to a radio station! Overall, Virgin America was very pleasurable and the way they are not interferring with my flight experience, actually benefited them - they got $24 from me during the flight. Jet Blue got $0.

All in all, for having very similar prices, Virgin America and Southwest have taken over as favorites for this girl who used to be such a cheerleader for Jet Blue. I'm not sure what's going on with Jet Blue, but their employees seem miserable and they seem to care way too much on making an extra dollar out of their fliers, instead of giving a great customer experience. The only thing that would make Southwest the definite clear leader, would be individual t.v.'s because that makes the entire flight for anything more than an hour. Virgin America doesn't fly enough places to be my only airline but once they start flying to Chicago (early next year) it will probably be my number one choice almost all the time. And when I can't fly them, then I will fly Southwest.

So I've been contemplating all day and trying to think of ways to make me feel better and decided why not write it out and tell a story. why the hell not.. I haven't blogged in awhile :-)

The night started out great. Came home from work, was relaxing and watching shows on fancast.com until my best friend Sadie text me that she was hungry and wanted to see if I would want to grab dinner. Of course I say yes! I was in the mood for beer, yummy artichoke dip, salad and lots of girl talk. and to make it even better my cute bartender could possibly be working (he was) so we headed to downtown Walnut Creek.

We are about to finish our dinner and pay and I reach for my purse that I hung on my chair, and then the shock hits me - there is nothing there. I jump up and look on the ground around my seat only to find nothing. I look up and my friend Sadie is looking at me and asks "what?"

"My purse is gone" I say in disbelief and shock. and then I go into panic mode - need to cancel my cards, where is my phone, damn it - it's in my purse. I need to call the police. my brain is going a mile a minute

Sadie calls my phone and a guy answers, and says "hello" and then they hang up. She texts them saying "take the cash, just please bring back the purse . leave it outside" I'm thinking that's a great idea, and then realize it probably won't ever happen cuz it's a Dooney & Burke.

And then it starts coming back to me.. all that was in my purse - my phone, two bank cards, my brand new lip gloss, my ID, damn it - my Flip video camera . all of my keys. oh no, how am I going to get into my house? or into my car?

Thank God Sadie was there with me. She remained calm and I probably couldn't have gotten through it without her. and the manager at the restaurant as well as the cute bartender/server were so helpful. everyone was as shocked as me. It's never happened there before. I guess Walnut Creek isn't as safe as we always thought. The cop who came was super helpful but even as she was taking the report I just kept thinking, I'm never going to see that stuff again - damn it, I loved that purse

And of course I keep thinking, I can't believe this happened to me. How could I have been so dumb to hang it on my chair. to be so oblivious. Is it karma? Did it happen to me for a reason?

So I've decided to make a list of things I'm grateful for. I've focused on the negative and lack all day so I suppose the best way to get out of my funk is to think of the positives and list why I'm grateful.

I'm grateful I wasn't hurt

I'm grateful my bank card hadn't een used yet when I cancelled it

I'm grateful Sadie was there and has Wamu as well so I had a number to call from her card

I'm grateful my Dad a spare key for my car

I'm grateful I had a place to stay last night

I'm grateful my kitchen window was unlocked and that Sadie is tall enough to climb in - I definitely wasn't

I'm grateful I have a reason to get a new driver's license now and can get rid of the writting on the back

I'm grateful that Sadie lent me her phone and for the helpful lady at the AT&T store who was helpful and fixed it to have my phone number - (so grateful I MIGHT keep the Yankees logo on it while I'm borrowing it)

I'm grateful now I have a reason to use the other purses that have just been hanging in my closet

I'm grateful that I have a roof over my head

I'm grateful I have a car

perhaps that person needed the money more than me..perhaps that person needs my stuff to eat... or at least get a drink in a bar in Walnut Creek

and hey! I got a hug from the cute bartender :) it's a small thing but every little thing helps at the moment ;-)

and now my real question is, will they accept my expired passport when I fly on Saturday, Sunday and next Wednesday???

I'm grateful I'm alive

Either that or no one else can find anything to write about. You go to blogher.com and it's a bunch of people's opinions on either Obama or McCain. But how does no one see that they are not talking about anything??!?

Let me back up real quick...

I'm a Poli Sci major, I definitely understand politics, I learned how to run a campaign, and one of the most important things is to run middle. I get that! Trust me. But how is it that no one is seeing that neither side is saying anything? Anyone watch Reality T.V.? I'll admit I do... ever notice how there are always that couple of people who dont involve themselves cuz they don't want to take sides and as a side make alliances and piss people off? Yeah, those people normally get voted off.

It's also a different age. Now I log into the computer and immediately I see "McCain and Obama square off!" and immediately under that a link titled "Fact Check". Maybe they are afraid to say something meaningful, solid and state facts because they know America will Google them a second later and check them on it.

Has anyone noticed how drinking games and Palinbingo.com, and any other game you can come up with involving "catch phrases" are even more prevelant? I like playing a game that involves drinking every time Palin says "Maverick" as much as the next person but did we forget these people are going to be running our country??!? Did anyone come up with a game on how many times the candidates said the EXACT SAME LINES to answer DIFFERENT questions. Perhaps note cards shouldn't have never been allowed in any classroom.

I understand... I could go deeper and deeper into how newspapers, television, the internet, Perez Hiton have affected our society all the way to an election but the truth is I don't think I have to. I think there are just as many people out there that think the same way.

At least we have one thing to watch the debates for... we had a practice fire drill at work today.. we were all outside, me and my coworkers, enjoying the sun and chatting... and someone brought up tonight's debate and where they were going to watch it. I simply said "I'm tired of watching them. I'll catch the Saturday Night skit.. much more entertaining" and a coworker looked at me said "yeah, but it's more funny if you watch the debate"

and I had to agree.. ok I'll watch the debate so I can laugh even harder than I already do at Saturday Night Live. (or the Daily Show or Colbert Report...) and I feel that's what our country has come to.. and someone please wake me up when they finally start actually stating a plan, instead of me counting how many times they say "maverick", "cronies" or anything else on a drinking game.

He simply said to remain calm, to not focus on the past and the heartbreaks, but this 2008 team that just won the division. And to remind us there is a long road ahead but just let this team play baseball.

""It's not fair to put all the expectations of all the past failures
here and all the past successes here on the 2008 team," Piniella said.
"You let this team stand on its own merit and you let them do what they
can do as well as they can do and let them go as far as they can."

I've been saying all summer that I believe that focusing on negative will only be more negative. And for the first time in my life, I questioned whether us, as Cubs fans, have almost continued the curse ourselves, not the Billy Goat, the black cat or Bartman. I am just as much as fault.. I remember watching the game when Bartman went for the ball, and I immediately thought "oh no, here we go again" and the Cubs went on to lose that game - and the series.

But that's just it.. I let it get into my head, as I'm sure the Cubs players did themselves, as well as most of the Cubs fans out there.

But let's listen to Piniella... he's right. There is a long road ahead, and let's not focus on the heartbreaks of the past. Let's focus on the positives of this year and just enjoy this as it goes. The Cubs are a great team this year and proved it today with winning the division.

To me, right now, the glass is half full. Let's just enjoy watching baseball into October. :-)

I was joking today with a female co-worker about how men have PMS and sometimes even worse than women! She laughed but I got to thinking, but it's really true! I used to date this guy and his mood would always go up and down right around the full moon. I wouldn't even have to check a paper. His mood would go sour, and I knew the moon was bright and full in the night sky. He isn't the only one either. I've known many guys who are normally happy and upbeat who turn into non-social, depressed and quiet. It's almost always monthly but I've seen even weekly and daily - although daily might be more of a multiple personality disorder or something. It's too bad that there isn't an actual schedule to prove it. The full moon was the closest I ever got. But if you don't believe me, there are actual studies done on it, including this one:

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-13094283-details/Study+shows+men+also+suffer+from+PMS/article.do

So ladies, the next time some male in your life is being difficult or having some mood swings, feel free to say "oh it must be that time of the month". I'm sure they wouldn't like it too much but after all these years, heck, I think they deserve it. ;-)

I used to plan snowboarding trips when I was in college and would go at least once, if not multiple times, a month. I remember one specific trip my second season where I had really started to feel comfortable and could really carve and enjoy the ride. And on that trip, I got into the big 15 passenger van, in the passenger seat, after the long day and my friend and partner in planning, Tommy, looked at me and asked, "how was your day?". I looked at him and smiled and replied, "it was great - I didn't fall once!". In which he replied with something I LEAST expected to hear, "if you don't fall, then you aren't pushing yourself."

WOW. it really made me think! That whole day I had been in my comfort zone and not challenging myself. Which as a result, meant that I wasn't growing, learning and improving my snowboarding skills.

I attended this team building thing for work on Friday and it focused a lot on our "comfort zones". I've been thinking about it a lot this weekend. I think it's good to have comfort in some way - family, people close to you, your home, etc - but at the same time it's important to push yourself constantly. A lot of people are afraid of change in their lives. They get nervous or scared about something when they are starting to challenge their internal comfort zone and they back out. I've known people to get angry with themselves and instead of facing what it is that is making them angry, they lash out at others and exile them from their lives. It's their own choice and while I might think it's sad, it's their choice.

People can live in their comfort zone their entire life. But what kind of life would that be? They never allowed themselves to experience new things, be proud of combating their fear and accomplishing something they never would have, and expanded and grown as a person.

I've never really had much of an issue in this. I always seem to follow my heart and my gut, and while I might be afraid at times, I've relied on the strong support of my family and friends to get me to the finish line. and when I get to that point, I make a new finish line and strive towards that.

I'm not writing this to toot my own horn. I'm saying it in hopes that whoever is reading this will look internally and see if there is something that they are procrasting in accomplishing because of their own fear of going outside their comfort zone.

You see it every day.. people unhappy in the job they are doing, unsatisfied or bored in a relationship, angry or bad blood with friends who were close in the past, angry and upset at life..

I recommend the book "Excuse me, You're Life is Waiting" or "The Power of Now" to anyone looking for inspiration in changing their life for the better. :-) We should always be looking to improve. It's called "living" :-)

So this thought crosses my mind the other day. What if us loyal Cubs fans are actually causing their curse by simply believing in it? If we are focusing on the fact that "the Cubs always choke" and "the Cubs will never make it" or my favorite "it's because of the curse" or any other negative thought involving the Cubs never breaking the 100 year old curse and winning a Worlds Series, then what will the result be? I believe we will all be saying at the end of the year "there is always next year" even though that year will come and we will sabotage our team again.

This year, with Law of Attraction in mind, I refused to keep quiet on how well the Cubs are playing. or to hold back in saying "this could be the year" because I think we should be focusing on the positive, not the negative :) I'm not too sure if my lone positive attitude will be able to overcome all the negative, but who knows... It couldn't hurt!

Go Cubs Go! :)

On Monday August 4, a game I can't decide if I would want to be at or not happened. I woke up on Tuesday morning to see it on the Today show and went immediately to YouTube when I got to a computer to check if there were any videos. and sure enough, there is this video that gave me instant goosebumps as I watch this guy walk through all the same pathways I did for two days just a few weeks ago (minus the heavy rain and the 95 mph winds and looming tornados).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVEZSlA-dmo

I don't know who took this video but GREAT job in capturing the atmosphere of the moment, and true essence of Cubs fans. I saw it featured on Chicago Fox News and the girl being interviewed said it best with "you really got into the Cubs atmosphere. If you want some die-hard fans, there's some die-hard fans"

It's amazing that that many Cubs fans stayed through the weather to get to the point of the sirens, and then to be cheering and singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Awesome. I would have loved to have experienced that.

and as I might be jinxing it.. but I really don't think I am. in any case, how many times can you say a storm like that hit Wrigley?

it might not have been a meteor like I mentioned in my last post, but close enough for me. I'll take it!

Way to go Cubs fans for sticking out the game and being the loyal die-hards that we are! :)

words. all the summers listening to Harry Carey on the radio, sitting
with my grandpa watching the games, crying and laughing at the same
time. Or to explain why after the Cubs lost in '03, and my coworker
showed me the front page picture of girl in Cubs gear, hands over her
mouth and nose and tears down her face, brought me immediately to tears
that I had to walk outside for a minute.

The emotions that go into baseball for me, and particularly the
Cubbies, have no words. Happiness, sadness, excitement, and even at
times, apathy.. "There is always next year" can be heard at the end of
every last game of the season.

but it's even more than that. more than I don't expect others to
understand. Just because not everyone is a baseball fan like me.
Others didn't grow up like me playing wiffle ball in the backyard with
their cousins, where the step of the garage was first base, pole of the
swing set secod, some random spot in one area third, and home where you
started. Those are some of my first memories. and more importantly,
my grandparents not seeing the World Series they hoped for, and their
parents and some of their parents. The generations and generations
that have waited.

Which is why this year probably means more to me than any of those
years I mentioned before. This was the first year I went to Wrigley
Field. no words can even describe. But also, my dad, the one who
taught me baseball, and a big Cubs fan, is suffering from ALS. And I
hope in this lifetime that he will see a Cubs World Series win.

I used to date this guy who said that the day the Cubs win the World
Series, a meteor would hit Earth. obviously it was a joke, but I'd
take that in seeing the Cubs win.

and that's how much of a baseball fan I am ;-) (I am half kidding about that last paragraph)

I like to tell people it's more about training yourself to feel the feelings that make you feel good. That life is too short to concentrate on negative feelings - worry, fear, anger, sadness, etc - but it's really a training and conditioning of our body because as children we are taught negative feelings.

There are a lot of great books about LOA but it's really about putting those books in practice. I love the book "Feel It Real" by Denise Coates because it discusses "games" that you can play to get yourself to radiate at a good vibration. I also use the Free Forums at www.denisecoates.com to post daily. I think it helps me to write out what I want and then go back later to see how I manifested it. It's a growing process and I think where people miss out on LOA is that they read a book and then put it down when it's done and that's it. and go on with their lives and forget that it's an actual lifestyle that needs to be practiced. I have many magnitizers and games on my iPod from the Denise Coates website and it's amazing because any time I start to feel my vibration going down, I take 10 minutes out of my day, listen to one of those and get back to where I want to be.

We are all going to have negtiave thoughts and emotions sneak back into our lives, but I think it's recognizing those, calling them out and using games and practices to get where we want to be.

any thoughts on this?
