How do every day citizens measure how bad this economy really is – do we
consider the number of layoffs, the balance of our retirement accounts, the
price for a gallon of gas, or the budget for our holiday shopping? The truth is we use all those things as a measure and many more!

I received a
list of store closing in an email from a friend today and was taken back a bit.
I could not imagine that so many stores were closing at the same time. I did a
Google search to see if the information in the email was accurate – not only was
it accurate, it was even worse than the email list. Here are two links
to read about more stores planning to close down completely or some of its

Watch those store money cards, gift cards and
credit slips! If you have one (or many) in your wallet, it may be time to visit
these stores and use them now!

Now there are many stores on this list
that I have been a loyal customer of for many years. I also know lots of my
neighbors and friends that work at these stores and will be without a job if
they close. I don’t know if we can stop the large stores from closing, but I do
know who we might be able to help. As I looked at the list, I couldn’t help but
think of all the “home town” shops that need our support this year. Visit your
local downtown shops when you are out holiday shopping. The stores of Main
Street are part of America and they need your support.

Here’s hoping
that few stores close, less people lose their jobs and that as a nation we get
back on track soon. I have faith that we will, but it will take all of us doing
the right thing to succeed!

For Release 9 a.m. EST
September 25,
2008

Massachusetts Company Unveils
New Website to Inspire Women

BOSTON – September, 25, 2008
- Diva Toolbox, LLC, announced today the launch of its new web site for women,
www.divatoolbox.com. Divatoolbox.com is
a multipurpose site. It is an information portal to topic-based articles and
advice from subject matter experts and life-experience stories from “everyday”
women. It is also an outlet to showcase women – known to the public or not -
that have dedicated themselves to inspiring others.

“The mission of the
Web site is to empower, educate, and entertain women,” said Janet Powers,
President. “It seeks to provide insight into issues that affect women, to
inspire women to achieve, to educate women in both practical and intellectual
subjects, and to create a supportive and nurturing community.”

Janet
Powers first recognized the need for the Diva Toolbox when she built her first
home and had a million questions. Luckily she had a wealth of family, friends
and colleagues to help her through that process. As time went on and she
renovated her home, invested for retirement, bought a new car, insured her
investments, the questions kept coming up. Janet realized that there were
millions of women out there, just like her, that needed help in finding the
answers and she decided to help them. “The motto of the Diva Toolbox is ‘Within
you lies the ability to do anything. Find it’,” Janet said. “I live by that
motto and hope that other women will find inspiration in this
message.”

For an informational tour of the site, please visit our Online Media Kit. (may take a few seconds to load)

The Power of a Card by Mitch Newman

June
15th, 2007. The date has been etched in my mind forever. My father
called to see if I had gotten his birthday card. I found this odd for
two reasons. One, my birthday was five days away, and two, if in
previous years my father sent me a card it usually arrived late -- well
after my sister would question him, “did you ever send Mitch a card for
his birthday?”

I only voiced my surprise to him at the timing
of his question, and his response was that he wanted to send it out
early this year. I told him I had yet to receive it but that I was sure
it would be there soon enough. I forgot about it until my birthday when
he called to send his good wishes, and asked again – “did you ever get
my card?” I told him it no. He was perplexed that it would take so
long.

It suddenly dawned on me that my neighbor downstairs,
who shares the same last name, had been in Florida for several months
caring for his ailing parents. I imagined perhaps that the card ended
up in his mail, which was then forwarded to his folks place in Miami. I
shared this with my father and told him I would email my neighbor to
find out.

I never did. Call it too busy. Call it one kid,
another moments away from her first taste of air. Call it busy with
work. Or, maybe I just need to call it the truth. It had been years
since my father sent me a gift, usually a check stuffed inside a card.
No reason to suspect there was money in it at this stage of the game,
so I discounted the card with someone else’s words printed inside and
forgot about it. Again. And we never discussed it. Again. It was just a
card anyway.
