Wanted: ONE MOMMY

Cute and vivacious 6 yr old searching for a "Mommy".

Successful candidate WILL possess:

1) Patience. You must be able to listen to my stories, over and over,
ad nauseum. Despite what you may have heard from previous "Mommy"'s, I
DO NOT chatter incessantly about nothing. In fact, each of my
utterances must be duly recorded and memorized, and when I've forgotten
why I'm telling this story in the first place, you should be able to
remind me accordingly. This patience must spring from an un-ending
fountain, one that you can draw from as I'm nipping at your heels while
you accomplish the other tasks attributed to this position, including
dishes and laundry. When you are engaging in these activities, you must
still provide me with your rapt attention, and never truly be diverted
from <strike>my useless noise </strike>my insightful musings.

2) Spatial Awareness. It is extremely desirable that you should be
aware of your surroundings constantly, even while you are expressing
undying patience and accomplishing the aforementioned tasks. Despite
what you may have heard, I DO NOT follow you around like a lost puppy,
I am only attempting to test your spacial knowledge. I will
occasionally walk RIGHT behind you, so close that if you should turn
around, we will collide. I may hang about at your elbow while I'm
testing your patience, and you should be aware that I am always there,
chattering. You shall never lose that patience (read above) nor should
you bump into me, hit me with the laundry basket or lose your temper.
Those things will not be tolerated.

3) Quiet Voice. You should always endeavor to use your quiet voice, or
as it is so eloquently named: your inside voice. If I should trip you
while testing your spatial awareness, you must be able to maintain your
patience (see Article 1) and refrain from loud outbursts (see Article
2, end of paragraph). Should you raise your voice at me, I do reserve
the right to storm off to my room, slam the door, pout or burst into
tears. If this should occur, you are expected to comfort me, feel
copious amounts of guilt and possible purchase me a pony. Should I
<strike>scream like a raptor on fire</strike> yell out in anger, excitement or boredom,
you must approach me with a quiet voice and tender touch. Aggression
has no place in a "Mommy".

Other Qualifications:

* Broad shoulders: to carry the weight of your world and mine. I may
occasionally add disappointments and unfairness to that load.

*Long Arms: in the event of an outburst, I require hugs and backrubs. It is recommended you also wear an absorbant shirt.

*Answers: During those times I am testing your patience, you must be
able to provide me with answers to any question under the sun,
including appropriate and DIFFERING answers to the question "why?".
This is non-negotiable.

*Must be able to work long hours for little pay. As the currency in
this house is love, you must continue to work, get up with me in the
night, chase away monsters and clean up my barf. Even if I am angry
with you and not paying you in kisses and hugs. It's a recession you
know.

*Must have own vehicle. I occasionally need to travel to
extra-curricular activities, school and fun places such as the park. As
I do NOT like to walk, you must be able to transport me there. Should
we be forced to walk, you must be willing to carry me, either in your
arms or on your back should my little legs be tired.

Applications: Please send your name, experience and resume to
doubleagentgirl@gmail dot com. Although it belongs to my previous
"Mommy", I've hijacked it in protest against cleaning my room.

Only serious applicants need apply.

We all sat in the Vue quietly, introspectively, until the lady was on her way. She may have left the rest stop and our vision, but our hearts rode shotgun. Near tears, we all wished the best for her and her husband - none of us speaking for the next ten minutes or so. Still now, we hope that he was reached in time, and in currently recovering from his sudden heart attack.

At that moment I realized a few things. Life is short - too short to take for granted all the beautiful things that shimmer in our eyes. Friends are few - especially the good ones. If you are lucky enough to make a few, hold on to them tight, be a friend always, even more so when its hard to be one. Love those around you, fiercly, with all you have and all you are and live with every fibre of your being.

We three learned that lesson, and so we lived like that all weekend. Laughing until we cried, clutching our stomachs - totally oblivious to muffin tops - living in rich and vivid colours.

Today was fab! Great swag, interesting seminars and a great lunch at the Cheesecake Factory (aren't we naughty?!) After we gathered for drinks and mingled. Groups of lady bloggers stood together, laughing and sipping cocktails, weaving into other groups, neighbouring conversations passing cards and handshakes around like candy. It was loud but it was satisfying. This group of women were enjoying themselves, their dedication and blood sweat and tears validated by all these alike minded people. There was sharing and laughter and wine... who could ask for more?

Thankyou to my Canadian Beantown Lovelies - and especailly a thankyou to my roadtrip crew, you guys are my lady-heros. It might take a week to heal my stomach muscles from all the laughter.

Thankyou to all the lovely ladies attending BlogHer Boston. All of you that I met were wonderful and warm and kind. I look forward to reading you in the near future.

Thankyou to GM Carpool. You guys provided us with a vehicle that was awesome to drive, and was equipped with technology that helped us to help a heartattack victim's wife get to him at the hospital (more on THAT later).

Thankyou BlogHer. For giving all these wonderful people a connection. You are the gossamer thread that ties each and everyone together. Awesome!!

I'm going to Boston! This weekend I am attending the BlogHer Outreach Boston '08 with some wonderful Canadian bloggers. As if that wasn't exciting enough, we are also part of the GM Carpool, a lovely arrangement that provides us with a Saturn Vue Hybrid to drive down with. Excited? Um, yeah!

When I'm not busy trying <strike>not to spit on myself</strike> to contain my excitement, I've been packing, and ordering travellers insurance and generally freaking out. LOL. Do I have the right clothes, will this dress make me look <strike>like Godzilla </strike> beautiful... can you see my leg cheese...how much sleep do I really need etc. At the same time I'm making arrangements for my children Thing One and Two, packing tiny Disney themed suitcases and playing hostess to my overnight guests. Because? Of COURSE, everything hits the fan THIS week, when I'm planning to run away with Sugarpants and claim Boston in the name of the Agent. So I'm packing, and freaking out and hosting my grandparents overnight stay and still quite full of roadtrip merriment.

Thankyou GM, for providing us with the means to transport ourselves to a weekend of fun, while reducing our carbon footprint. My great-grandchildren will appreciate it.

Tomorrow, I shop. Until I drop, or my Starbucks runs out. Whichever comes first. I need to look good when cruising the Boston 08 Outreach Tour. WOOT! I'm going to Boston! Me, and my four other Beantown Lovelies.
