Only a few of us are lucky enough to say that we live within driving distance of a beach. With this luxury comes a knowledge of years of experience combing the beaches during the on and off season to know the unwritten rules while you are at the beach. Check out my top 5 tips if your planning on heading to a beach this summer.

5. The Ocean Is Not a Pool
I know this might sound like a "duh" statement but you would be surprised at the people that go into an ocean, feel something swim by them, freak out and run to shore. Fish, crabs, dolphins and yes sharks swim in the ocean because it is their home! Screaming while your running towards
the shore will not prevent animals living in the ocean and sometimes
coming into your comfort zone. Sharks terrify anyone, and if your sure you see one, scream like mad hell towards the shore, but for the most part (and despite if the media is having a slow week and decides to run "shark attack" stories) the attacks are extremely rare. If you're only comfortable with the occasional bug or frog, go to a pool.

4. Take Your Garbage With You
No one likes a litter bug. Especially when you are on a beach, usually walking barefoot and laying in the sand. Nothing is worse than laying down and seeing someone's garbage they left behind because they were too lazy to clean it up. Eventually that same garbage will get washed up in the tide and an animal will probably think its food and suffer horrible health defects (or even die) because you couldn't take 5 minutes to throw away your trash.

Another pet peeve (no pun intended) is when beach-goers take their animals to the beach and let them do their business without picking it up. If you are a shell collector, those little pieces of poo can sometimes look like a piece of driftwood or other shell until you pick it up and get grossed out. (that is the exact reason I do not pick up "cool looking rocks" anymore at the beach!) Beach rules are the same as anywhere else, pick up after your pet!

3. Watch Out For Surfers/Fisherman
Not everyone goes to the beach just to lay out or walk up and down the shore line. There are surfers that pick certain spots in the water that have the best waves. These spots, once rightfully claimed (rightfully claimed meaning who gets there first) are not the spots you want to take your children to play in the water. Surfers are competitive athletes that try to beat each other out for the best wave and once they are riding that wave and see a small child playing in the water, it could be too late too switch course to avoid hitting the child. Any
size surfboard could easily pop out of the water the wrong way and
slice your head open.

Fisherman also have the same rights to the ocean as anyone. Though they cast their line out very far, there is no telling how far the line can drift with rip currents and wave patterns. One rouge wave could leave you as the only thing getting hooked. If you are in the water, stay a good 40-60 feet from any fisherman or surfers to avoid getting run over or hooked.

2. Don't Feed the Damn Seagulls
Seagulls are rats with wings. I absolutely detest the bird and could sleep soundly if I never have to see or hear a cackle of another sea gull again. One sure fire way to tell if someone has never been to a beach before is when they start holding out their food so the "seagulls will come and eat it!" It's not cute, it's not fun. Especially for the people around you who are trying to relax and you cannot relax on a beach with 100 sea gulls around you fighting for food and will poop on you the second they get a chance. I cannot think of a single circumstance where it was funny/cool to feed a seagull. (scratch that, it was insanely funny, coming back from a trip on a boat and a ton of sea gulls were following us and my friend held out a potato chip to lure the sea gull in to catch him, he grabbed part of the bird, only to be bitten - hilarious)

1. Please Don't Run Over My Shells
For anyone that knows me, you know I am an avid shell collector. Shells are in every room of my house and I showcase them proudly as if they were trophies. Where else can you go that has beautiful treasures on the ground for anyone to pick up and take home FOR FREE?! Nothing annoys me more as when I am walking a beach and someone rides their bike, runs,
or takes a car directly over a shell bed. It may not seem like anything to you, but shells are beautiful treasure from the sea and to run your equipment right over a shell bed is just plain rude. I can't tell you how many times I have been at the beach actually looking in a shell bed and have someone run over the exact bed I'm looking in, destroying everything in their path. Have a little respect for nature's beauty and one of the few things are both beautiful and free in this world.

A couple of other tips to help you if you are heading to beach is don't invade others spaces. If room on the beach permits, keep a good distance from other families and visitors to the beach. We are all going to relax and having a stranger in your "bubble" makes anyone feel uneasy. Another good way to avoid invading someone's space is to be considerate when you are shaking out your sand-ridden items. Step away from anyone that is around and proceed to shake off your towels and clothes from a safe distance to avoid getting sand over someone who is reading a book or napping.

Bonus Tip: Keep your feet from frying! When you arrive at the beach (or pool), flip your sandals over to avoid putting your feet into burning hot sandals when your ready to leave.

We all want to look great in pictures and one has to wonder how
celebrities always look so flawless in almost every picture. The reason they always look great is most likely due to professional training on how to pose for pictures to make you look leaner, proportionate and gorgeous. If you want to look your best in pictures follow these tips from about.com on how to pose for pictures.

Secret No. 1: Turn partially sideways to the camera, planting one foot in front of the other. Point your toe to the camera and place your weight on your back foot.

Secret No. 2: Pull head forward slightly to minimize any appearance of a double chin.

Secret No. 3: Hold arms slightly away from your body. This keeps upper arm flab from flattening out and therefore appearing flabbier (much like thighs do when one sits on a couch).

Secret No. 4: Pull shoulders back, chest forward and gently suck stomach in. Be
careful not to suck stomach so far in that your ribs show, thereby
causing those who later see the photo to cluck to themselves in a
bemused, sing-song voice, "She's sucking i-in."

Secret No. 5: If you can get away with it without looking like a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model wannabe, try the look away trick. To do this, look away from the
camera, then turn towards it, breaking into a smile just before the
camera clicks. Your smile will appear fresh, not frozen. This trick
takes practice behind closed, locked doors.

When taking a photo it's also important the photographer does not snap the picture from below. This adds another 20-50 pounds to the 10 pounds automatically and annoying added by the camera.

Use objects you are holding to your advantage by placing them in front of parts of you you'd prefer to hide. A purse or corsage in front of your belly. A jacket slung over the shoulder. (Gwyneth Paltrow used a perfectly placed purse to hide her baby bump before she announced her pregnancy with Apple).

Baseball has always been very near and dear to my heart. I've always loved everything from playing the sport, watching it on tv and collecting cards of my favorite player, David Justice. Last week, however, was a first for me. I took my cousin, who is like a little sister to me, on a field trip with a bunch of her friends to see a Jacksonville Suns baseball game.

I was nervous at first and I didn't know what to expect. Upon arriving at the school, Dasia (my cousin) ran up to me, hugged me and escorted me to her class room. Her desk was right beside the teacher's because, naturally, she's a great student. (excuse me as I brush my shoulders off and drop a "that's my girl" slogan on you) Everyone got their instructions from the teacher as to how the day was going to pan out and we all made our way outside, in a single file line of course to the row of school busses awaiting dozens of children.

Stepping onto the bus, I caught a whiff of "the smell", one you can only understand if you get onto a school bus and get your first whiff in years of the "brown leather, sweat and grease" that still exhists even today. Once we arrived at the ball park everyone walked single file line about a 1/4 of a mile into the ball park, this feat alone simply amazed me that the kids were so well behaved and no one got lost. Must be the single file line system.

Walking into the ball park we were all handed our customary hotdog and soda and we continued on to make our way to the seats. It apparently was "school day" for the ball park as their were nothing but children everywhere and a few adults who apparently were unaware of the "school day at the ballpark" (poor guys!) Sitting down in our seats waiting for the game to start, all of a sudden it was as if the employee's cage had been released from their dugeon and they were out fully stocked with cotton candy and snow cones. The kids swarmed the workers like seagulls at the beach quicly buying anything they were selling. I saw nothing but blue, red or purple mouths for the rest of the day.

After the first pitch is when some of the days questions started. Questions like "Why do they water the dirt on the field when no one is out there?" I respond back with "its for when the players are running around on the field so they do not slip and fall". "Well why do they put the white stuff down on the field?" to which I said "so the umpire knows what is a foul ball and what is not". "What's a foul ball?" and the quetsions continued on and on, but I didn't mind in the least. A little know-it-all boy who was sitting in front of us quickly added his two-sense in whenever he could and looked at me confused as to how a girl knows so much about baseball. The boy then proceeded to tell me his love affair with the Yankees, big mistake kid. He didn't say too much after I reminded him of what the Sox have done to them this year already :) he then turned back around and didn't say much else for the rest of the game. Dasia gave me a very proud "that's my cousin" look.

I tried to have the kids sit and actually watch a game, but when your about 10 years old it is very hard for baseball, or anything, to captivate their interest for a long period of time. They do not know what to look for yet such as the way the batter stands in the box, if the guy on first is going to attempt a steal or the pitch count for the starting pitcher. This appreciation comes years later. Therefore, I decided to go to plan b.

I expected everything to be terribly overpriced, but to my amazement, it wasn't in the least. I bought Dasia a baseball to try and get signed along with a sharpie to make sure my girl was prepared, both for under $6. Having been to this park several times, I knew exactly where to take her for the best shot at getting an autograph, right next to the bull pen. This spot is also the best place to catch a foul ball. The bullpen where the Jax Sun's play is extremely close to the fans (a couple of feet max) and we sat and stared at the guys waiting patiently for an autographs and foul balls that would never come. Unfortunately, the Sun's were getting destroyed in this game and I feel the players were too scared of getting in trouble by coach to sign any autographs. However Dasia had a baseball none the less and top secret knowledge next time she goes to watch the game.

We made our way back to the seats with the rest of her class just in time for the 7th inning stretch. Dasia didn't at first understand why we had to stand up to sing. "You stand up so you can get excited for the rest of the game!" as we proceeded to sing "Take me out to the ballgame" to which she knew EVERY word. After another proud moment, I sought out the boiled peanut guy and taught the girls how to eat the peanuts and throw them under the seat of the Yankee fan to which he had no knowledge.

At this very moment is when I realized, "this is the first time I've ever taught baseball without typing" and it hit me that I absolutely love what I do and this is why I started GuysGirl.com. These little girls had no idea about general rules and traditions of baseball until I taught them and I hope they came away with something that they will look back on and appreciate. The Sun's ended up losing the game, but all the kids really had a great time learning about the game and experiencing the traditions in baseball that is like no other sport.

Later on that night, Dasia was telling her mom all about our day at the ball park as she showed her mom the baseball I had bought her. "We couldn't get any players to sign it but Blythe and all my friends signed it and that is worth more to me than some guy I don't even know".

That's my girl.

those little dresses, skirts and bathing suits! This time of the year is also when we take those fitness New Year's resolutions that we placed on the back burner and start to refocus on ourselves and our fitness goals. To help us along the way, major snack companies in the past few years have released 100 Calorie Snacks that taste surprisingly good.

5. Right Bites Variety Pack
The variety pack is one of the best ways to go with the 100 calorie snacks. This package features chocolate chip cookies, short bread cookies and my personal favorite; rice crispy treats with chocolate drizzle. When I eat the rice crispy treat, I almost feel like I'm cheating at my diet but then I remind myself that I grabbed from my own personal snack cabinent.

(TIP if you have someone in your house that is NOT dieting, try to separate your food as much as possible. Its much harder to stay on track when your constantly reminded of what you cannot
eat-its a proven fact that you eat more of what you see more)

4. Mini Fudge Shop Cookies
These cookies were my favorite snack as a kid and now that I'm older I don't have to feel guilty about eating 12 of these delicious cookies! The cookies still have their signature chocolate bottom coating and the chocolate drizzle on top.

3. Nabisco Variety Pack
Nabisco has several variety packs but the one that is my favorite features the thin crisp Oreo cookies, chocolate chip cookies (which I think taste better than the Kellogg 100 calorie choc chip cookies) and another favorite of mine which I frequently buy separate from the variety pack is the Lorna Doone Shortbread cookies. This is hands down the best variety pack I have seen and if your looking for multiple snacks, this is the one to buy.

2. Smartfood White Cheddar Popcorn
I usually bought a huge bag of this popcorn at the gas station after a night out with the girls but when I saw that they made it into a 100 calorie size, it now is on my regular grocery shopping list. The popcorn tastes EXACTLY like the regular popcorn and compared to other 100 calorie snacks, the package it comes in is filled with more popcorn than air. A MUST try!

1. Cheetos Asteroids
No not the regular cheetos, but the asteroids are the BEST 100 calorie snack on the market. The package again has more asteroids than air and have that taste of "Am I cheating on my diet?". The little cheezy balls are so tasty, its very hard not to dump the whole bag in my mouth. If you do not try any of the other 100 calorie snacks on my list, you must try this one!

The 100 calorie packs do seem bigger than what is actually inside and are a bit more expensive (I don't like to throw away money either-hell I clip coupons every Sunday) but when your in need for something sweet but don't want to wreck your diet, these 100 calorie snacks are the best way to go.

A new generation of hockey has come, like it or not; and with this new generation of young, hard-driven stars, the was the Greats that came before them like Orr, Howe, Gretzky and Lemieux that laid the foundation of what a hockey player has become today.

Two of today's best, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, have been the players to watch over the past 4 years. With skills unmatched, these 2 guys have left many people to pick their jaw up off the floor in amazement of the mind blowing plays and talent that they posses. Although both play forward, Crosby and Ovechkin vary greatly in style of play.

Ovechkin being a natural goal scorer can also play the other side of the puck. He has become very disciplined in the defensive zone and plays a key role in the penalty kill. Ovie, (Ovechkin's nickname) is not afraid to throw the body around and in the corners to muck it up.

Sid "the kid" Crosby has a gift to pass the puck threw traffic and hit the tape of his teammate with ease. His vision on the ice cannot be matched by players of today's game but his natural talent makes every one of his teammates better.

Having noted off several gifts these 2 players posses its hard to forget that these guys also play in an era as the Greats. In today's game, the clutching and grabbing, two-line offsides and hooking have all been taken out of the game. Gretzky put up more than 200 points in 4 different years. Ovechkin's highest point total in one season came last year with 112 while Crosby's highest point total year came in the 05-06 season topping out at 120 points. We can only imagine of what Gretzky and Lemiume could have accomplished if they played in the "New NHL".

Right now it would be considered blasphemy to mention Crosby and Ovechkin in the same breath as Gretzky. Although both players will most likely make it to the Hockey Hall of Fame, one word comes to mind when I picture Gretzky playing today:

Unreachable.

For those of you who are new to hockey or just want a freshen up on
your hockey knowledge the following are the general rules, descriptions of positions and common terms you will hear around a hockey game.

THE POSITIONS IN HOCKEY

To
play hockey you mush have 12 players in the game at any given time (six per team). The positions are three forwards, two defensemen and one goalie. Three forwards comprise one line consisting of a center (C), right wing (RW) and left wing (LW).

Center
The center is typically the team’s quarterback. The center usually directs play in both the offensive and defensive zones. The center also sets up plays for his teammates to score goals in the opposing zone and takes most of the face-offs. The center leads the attack by carrying the puck on offense. He exchanges passes with his wings to steer the play toward the opposing goal. On defense, he tries to disrupt a play before it
gets on his team's side of the ice.

Right/Left Wings
The wings or wingers play on the right or left side of the center. They cover their areas as the forward line enters and plays in the opposing zone. The wings team with the center on the attack to set up shots on goal. Defensively, they attempt to break up plays by their counterparts and upset the shot attempts.

Defensemen
The defenders usually play behind the forward line. This allows them to keep the puck in play in the opposing zone and keeps them in position to more easily defend their own goal when the play returns to their zone. There are two defensive positions, right defense and left defense. These players try
to stop the incoming play at their own blue line. They try to break up passes, block shots, cover opposing forwards and clear the puck from in front of their own goal. Offensively, they get the puck to their forwards and follow the play into the attacking zone, positioning themselves just inside their opponent's blue line at the "points."

Goalie
The goalie’s job is to stay in or near his goal area, which can be called
the crease, and stop the other team from scoring. A goalie’s
responsibility is to prevent the puck from entering the goal. He can
kick it, catch it, grab it or bat it out of the way – just don’t let it
go past the goal line. The goalie usually plays the entire game and
rarely moves away from his crease. The goalie's primary task is simple- keep the puck out of his own net. Offensively, he may start his team down the ice with a pass, but seldom does he leave the net he guards.

THE LINGO

Just like any other sport, hockey has its own terminology. Some words and phrases you may know or recognize. Others you might not. Here are just a few to help you get better acquainted with the game.

Assist
An
assist is awarded to the players that take part in the play immediately preceding the goal. For example, often times when a player scores a goal they receive help from their teammates in the form of a pass. As many as two players can get credit with an assist of a goal.

Body Check
Using the hip or shoulder to impede the progress of a player who has the puck.

Changing on the Fly
When players from the bench substitute for players on the ice without a stoppage of play.

Crease
The semi-circular blue area in front of each goal that protects the goalies from interference by attacking players.

Enforcer
The enforcer is an intimidating presence on the ice. His job is to protect his teammates from harm and make opponents think twice about taking cheap shots at any of his teammates. Generally the most penalized player on the team, the enforcer is never afraid to pick a fight.

Face-Off
Anytime there is a stoppage in play in ice hockey there is a face-off. The only face-off used in ice hockey is the standard face-off, where the referee drops the puck between two centers.

Five Hole
The space between the goalie's leg pads.

Hat Trick
A total of three or more goals scored by one player in a single game.

Icing
A player shoots the puck from behind the center red line across the opponent’s goal line and the puck is not touched by an opposing player until it crosses the goal line. If the opposing team touches the puck
first after it crosses the goal line, icing is called and a face-off is held at the opposite end. If the team that shoots the puck touches it first after it crosses the goal line, icing is not called and play continues. Icing is not called when the team that shoots the puck is shorthanded or playing with fewer players on the ice than the other team.

Neutral Zone
The area between the blue lines, divided by the red line.

One Timer
An immediate shot off a teammate’s pass. One-timers are very effective in surprising opposing goaltenders.

Power Play
If you break a rule, you go to the penalty box for a set amount of time while your team plays with one less player. This is known as a power play for the team with one extra skater and the team playing with fewer players is considered short-handed.

Slashing
Swinging your stick and striking an opponent, thus impeding his forward progress..

Ice Resurfacer
The vehicle used to resurface the ice before the game and after each period. The machine scrapes a thin layer off the ice, heats it and puts down a fresh coat of warm water that freezes to form a new, smooth layer of ice.

OFFICIALS

Sometimes you love them and other times you want to poor your beer all over him and curse him into oblivion. But the following are the guys we love to hate and hate to love.

Referee:
He supervises the game, calls the penalties, determines goals and handles faceoffs at center ice to start each period.

Linesmen:
Two are used. They call offside, offside pass, icing and handle all faceoffs not occurring at center ice. They do not call penalties, but can recommend to the referee that a penalty be called.

Goal Judges:
One
sits off-ice behind each goal and indicates when a goal has been scored by turning on a red light just above his station. The referee can ask his advice on disputed goals, but the referee has final authority and can overrule the goal judge.

Official Scorer:
He determines which player scores and credits assists if there are any. He may consult the referee, but the scorer is the final authority in crediting points.

PENALTIES

A team plays shorthanded when one or more of its players is charged with a penalty. However, no team is forced to play more than two players below full strength (six) at any time. When a third penalty is assessed to the same team, it is suspended until the first penalty expires. When a penalty is called on a goalie, a teammate serves his time in the penalty box.

Minor penalty:
(Two minutes) Called for tripping, hooking, spearing, slashing, charging, roughing, holding, elbowing or boarding.

Major penalty:
(Five
minutes) Called for fighting or when minor penalties are committed with deliberate attempt to injure. Major penalties for slashing, spearing, high-sticking, elbowing, butt-ending and cross-checking carry automatic game misconducts.

Misconduct:
(10 minutes) Called for various forms of unsportsmanlike behavior or when a player incurs a second major penalty in a game. This is a penalty against an individual and not a team, so a substitute is permitted.

Penalty shot:
A free shot, unopposed except for the goalie, given to a player who is illegally impeded from behind when he has possession of the puck with no opponent between him and the goal except the goalie. The team which
commits the offense is not penalized beyond the penalty shot, whether it succeeds or not.

Delayed penalty:
Whistle is delayed until the penalized team regains possession of the puck.

Recently I discovered a guy that specializes in making video game props. "This guy has too much time on his hands" is probably one of the first thoughts that come to mind but upon a deeper look, its pure talent and genius that is behind his company Volpin Props.

His collection includes items like the syringe from the game Bioshock. The game has some
of the most frightening characters ever created in a game. In their arsenal is a giant syringe used to suck the blood from dead bodies in which the characters then drink. In Volpin's prop he actually filled the canister on the syringe with a mixture of
RIT dye, clear hairgel and water. He says in his post that the hair gel was meant to create more viscosity but the end result ended up being more like red Gatorade rather than more of the consistency of blood. Something I think everyone would be ok with! Another arsenal in Volpins collection is a redone mascot of the hard core gamer community "Destructoid" and a Portal Gun.

With impressive detail and obvious precise

With March being Woman's History month its always important to talk
about how far women have come in the world. Dove started a campaign a while back on showing women and young girls what true beauty really is.

As part of the campaign for Real Beauty, in 2006, Dove started the Dove Self-Esteem Fund that claims to change the Western concept of beauty from ultra-thin models with perfect features to making every girl (and woman) feel positive about her looks, no matter what they are. In an effort to promote the Fund, Dove ordered a series of highly-successful online-based short films promoting the self-esteem concept.

The videos are truly inspiring. As someone who has grown up with advertisements shoved in my face of flawless bodies, I never realized the effect it has until you see all of the changes and adjustments that go into printing a simple magazine ad. Today's youth is bombarded with countless music videos, print ads,
bill boards, and more to push the idea that no matter what, there is
something wrong with you and there is a pill, knife, machine or drink that can fix it.

I, like many girls, like to feel pretty. There are parts on my body that I like some days and hate on other days. It is a constant struggle to remind yourself over and over again of all the glass half-full aspects of my life. But then I remember that I was lucky enough to have parents that told me I was beautiful, smart etc to build that self confidence. Some girls and women were never given that and that's why Dove's campaign is so important.

The campaign website is something that needs to be shared with as many women and girls as possible. As mentioned before, it has many helpful videos but the site also features many interactive experiences such as the "Self Esteem Editor" and can learn what really goes into making a magazine. Other helpful tools include how to talk to your daughter about body image, a quiz to see how confident you are and how you impact others self esteem (very important!). Upon finishing any one of
the campaigns, the girl who completes it receives a printable certificate that is suitable for framing remind them of their accomplishment.
Another great feature of the site includes showing you images and
asking if you can tell if the image has been photo shopped or altered in any way. Do you think you could tell?

The results and effects of this campaign are not yet known, but as a consumer, it helps that there are big companies out there that help women support other women, because lets face it, as women we all could do a better job of supporting each other.

Its that time of the year again. When words like bracketology and March Madness are thrown around on a daily basis. This time may be very annoying to you as your normal TV programs are interrupted by college kids running up and down a basketball court. But you don't have to sit on the sidelines this year, with our help you learn all about March Madness and participate in what makes March not just another boring month without football.

March Madness is very simply term that was coined to explain the frenzy that overtakes America as one huge tournament that consists of 65 division one college basketball teams that compete in a one-and-done competition to see who is the best college basketball team in the country. Win and you move on to the next round, lose and you go home crying in agony. Teams for both the men's and women's tournament are chosen by a selection committee, which is comprised of select university athletic directors and conference commissioners. Each tournament has its own committee. The selection committee meets between the Thursday and Sunday prior to the date selected for the tournament's first game. Its job is to filter out the teams deserving of an invitation. The decisions are announced live on TV March 15th. The majority of the teams receive an automatic bid into the tournament by winning their respective conference. The selection committee determines the other tournament entries by many different qualifications such as wins on the road, wins vs ranked opponents and how well a team finishes the regular season. Teams that do not get selected have the possibility to be invited to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) which most Americans refer to as "Not in Tournament". The NIT tournament is obviously less prestigious than March Madness.

After the selection process enters the term "bracketology". Where the teams are put into different "pods" and "seeds" to determine who they will play and what general area of the country they have to travel. The selection committee will try to keep the teams as close to home as
possible so more fans can attend thus making more money. There will be 6 total rounds that winners of each game plays in that cuts down the
number of teams by half each time (from 65 to 32-16-8-4-2-1) until a
champion is crowned. Believe it or not, there are actually professional "Bracketologists" out there that get paid to predict the committee's selections. There is also a book that explains how you can apply bracketology into your everyday life.

Now after selection Sunday you only have a couple days to fill in your bracket sheet of who you think will win. Some people get very scientific about how they fill in your bracket but it is nothing to stress about. With a little intuition and good luck, you will do just fine and have a great time competing against friends, family and coworkers.

Seedy Facts

A No. 16 seed has never won a tournament game.

A No. 8 seed is the highest seed to win a national championship (Villanova, 1985).

A No. 11 seed is the highest seed to advance to the Final Four (LSU, 1986).

No. 1 seeds represent 13 of the 26 national champions between 1979 and 2004.

The only year that at least one No. 1 seed didn't advance to the Final Four was 1980.

CBS Sports has compiled some tips to help you master your brackets. Here are a few:

Don't think that a low-seeded team is going to win because it's never won, and it's the team's turn.

Be on the lookout for injuries. The loss of key players could mean the difference between winning and losing.

Remain objective. Don't pick your favorite team to win the whole tournament when it starts out as a No. 16 seed.

Look
back into the past. If two teams played against each other earlier in the season, review the previous games. That could give you a good idea of what could happen again.

Make sure you have fun.

So when I grew up to start a website dedicated to teaching women about sports, few were very surprised. I recently asked my dad to be a part of my blog and start writing with me about what we love and what he wrote really surprised me . His first blog article ever is eerily similar to my post a few weeks before on baseball and steroids.

PLAY BALL!

Finally the season is upon us. Now is the time to put all the steroid talk & player bashing aside & focus on our great game of baseball.

I have been a fan of this game for many years & will be for the rest of my life. I am sick & tired of the steroid talk about this player / that player, just enjoy watching the games & the skills these players possess. We were all enamored with the McGuire/Sosa battle because steroid or not we loved the skill they possessed for crushing a baseball. It's no different for me now with A-rod. He and the other great players are why we watch the game.

Over the different eras there has been many changes in the game as well as in the players. Many in the media, as well the "purists" seem to think the game has never changed except during the "steroid era". Well A-rod, Bonds, Clemens etc. would be great players in any era. This idea that they were using "performance enhancers" & their play & their records shouldn't count is ridiculous.

Over the years as
we received more information about steroids & the side effects they can cause I hope we can eliminate their use but this is not the only time enhancements have been made or used.

From the balls to the bats, gloves, fields, playing conditions, etc, the game itself has had many enhancements over the years. From the players side think of all the changes since Babe Ruth. First and foremost in Ruth's time was the exclusion of African-American athletes that would have been some of baseball's best players. At some point playing became a full time job so focusing on just baseball was all the players had to do. That surely helped. Weight training & nutrition & supplements also enhanced players. And thinking of the medical & surgical enhancements players have received over the years is amazing.. And what about the
amphetamines & other stimulants players took when they needed a
little pick me up. Some enhancements are legal & some illegal. Some were legal and become illegal. But the players will always be looking for the next "enhancement" to make them the best they can be. And as fans that is what we really want, isn't it?

The era is what it is. It happened, get over it. Quit whining & complaining and just enjoy the games.
