Thanks to an old, ignorant co-worker that blurted this out in my presence. I sat in my tiny, hospital provided box, unsure of whether I'd heard this person (I'll call her L) correctly. She didn't say that, did she? L was a person that was born into had to have been made fun of at one time or another. She had been teased and taunted as a child and as a young adult. To hear these ignorant words come out of her mouth was shocking.
It has been over 10 years since I have
landed to this country. I knew nothing of the country and had never set
foot in the USA before I moved here. Television was my only window to
what America had to offer. I chose to come here, sadly, based on the
fact that I knew no-one here and wanted an adventure. Although many
commended the bravery in the move I knew it was based on not such
profound decisions.
