Cool cat and blogher co-founder extraordinaire Jory Des Jardins is blogging the San Francisco International Film Festival; here's her tantalizing picture of filmmaker Adrian Belic from hot tub to war zone to Beyond the Call red carpet. Check it out!
Annie "Brokeback" Proulx has surely earned the right to carp, and so she does:
The Pulitzer-Prize winning author of "Brokeback Mountain" has bashed the "segregated" and "out of touch" community that passed over the film, and instead gave the best picture Oscar to "Crash" - a film about race relations.
but Calamity Jane, who's just started reviewing for Ain't It Cool News. She writes, sassily:
I look forward to writing weekly reviews of politically minded DVDs recently released and pre-releases. Just to give u talkbackers something to steam over, I am a passive aggressive political individual. I like Ghandi & Mr. Thomas J. yep:O) bring it on!
From the News Dissector Blog:
The Khaleej Times reports:
SARAJEVO - A simple and haunting film about Bosnia's war rapes brought joy back home after winning top prize at the 56th Berlin Film Festival, but for thousands of victims whose life story it resembles it was much more than just an artistic success. 'Grbavica', written and directed by Jasmila Zbanic, explores the loving but fragile relationship between 12-year-old Sara and her mother Esma who conceived the child in one of numerous rapes she had to endure as a prisoner of a Bosnian Serb war camp.
If you haven't seen Transamerica, get to it! It's worth seeing in the theater for the same reason it's worth seeing Brokeback Mountain with your fellow random Americans. There will be gasps. It's fantastic to see jaded people making giant leaps in their understanding of sexuality and the world.
