My first job right out of college was at J Walter Thompson Company in
New York. I had an Ivy League degree and I was hired as...a typist. I
spent the day putting carbon paper in documents, throwing them out and
starting them over, and polishing my nails. I handed a guy his coat
and hat. I was one of the women in Mad Men. The only woman in a
position of power in the agency, an account executive, worked on Singer
Sewing Machines, Maxwell House Coffee, and Preparation H. She was such
a nervious wreck that she had to wear gloves all day to cover the rash
When I was a young mother (before Mommy
blogging) I belonged to Phoenix Country Club. Well, I didn't, but my
husband did and I got to go along for the ride.
I had my teeth whitened the
expensive way in 1999. My dentist took impressions, drilled a lot to
reshape all my front teeth, and then veneered the sixteen most visible
teeth. We spent a lot of time choosing colors, so that my teeth would
not look like they glowed in the dark, but looked natural.
Since then we have had an explosion of reseach about blueberries,
red wine, and dark chocolate being good for you, in addition to, of
course, coffee and tea.
I've been blogging for RealSelf.com for the past three months, and I must say I am loving it. Along with Nancy, the beauty editor and an experiences industry maven, I try new products and comment on them. So far, the best things I've found are Elastinol, a skin cream that hides wrinkles and makes my skin look really even-textured, and Horse Powr Fertilizer serum from ButterLondon, a nail product you have to order from England that helps nails grow longer and healthier.
