Justine Henin Retires on Top

By: Sarah Topics: Sports & Fitness

On Wednesday Justine Henin announced she would be retiring from tennis. This surprised me for two reasons. The first reason I was surprised is because she is only 25 years old. The reason I was really shocked is because Justine Henin was ranked #1 by the WTA.

She is going out on top.

But wow. This was really unexpected.

I don't know about you, but I'm floored. For her to retire is one thing. For her to retire right before the French Open, which she loves and which she's won four times is shocking...

The Chicago White Sox and Their Blow-Up Dolls

By: Sarah Topics: Sports & Fitness

The Chicago White Sox are having a rough year. They were in the middle of a losing streak when someone (possibly outfielder Nick Swisher) decided that good way to boost team morale would be to put two naked inflatable dolls in the clubhouse. These blow-up dolls were wearing signs that said "Let's Go White Sox" and "You've Got to Push".

Well, somebody pushed because one of the dolls had a bat shoved up her butt.

Aren't the White Sox classy gentlemen?

This Week (or so) In Sports

By: Sarah Topics: Sports & Fitness

A lot of things happened in sports the last week or so. Some of these events were historic and some were just embarrassing.

Let's take a look at some of the highlights.

Last weekend saw one of my favorite events of the year - the NFL draft. SportsSquee posted The Girls Guide to Football: Talking About the NFL Draft.

Jay-Z released a song about the NBA playoffs.

I'm Walking

I am walking. No, I'm not quitting blogging. I am actually walking. You know, for exercise.

After a traumatic shopping experience last month involving a trip to
Lane Bryant I decided that it was time to get my act in gear and start
exercising again. At home I've been using our elliptical machine. I
hate it but I figure since I spent $1100 on the damn thing I had better
use it.

Misogyny in Sports Media

If you can name more famous female athletes than famous male athletes you are anomaly. You probably also don't watch television or read the newspaper. A lot of this is probably due to the patriarchal trend in recent history. Who am I kidding? In almost all history. Since Elizabeth Cady Stanton went to a tea party in 1848 women have been trying to equalize this kind of thing.
