Still a Double Burden?

I have mixed feelings on the following topic.

Are our lives too easy or are we being fooled into thinking that life's circumstances can be turned into convenient coincidences

I was eating dinner with two friends a couple of nights ago and the topic of abortion came up. We are all pretty open with each other so each of us just went around and stated our opinions on abortion and then I decided to ask the question, "would you get an abortion if you got pregnant while you were still in college?" I got a "no" for every single person at the table. Was I surprised? Yes What was more shocking was that all three girls said that they would continue to go to school and just let their mothers raise their children. Seriously?

Are men just built a certain way?

My boyfriend came to visit me this past weekend and we did a lot of nice things together: we went to dinner, went for walks, etc. However, I began to notice that some of the stereotypes of men that are portrayed in shows like Everybody Loves Raymond are actually true and as our relationship progresses, I begin to see more of these stereotypes come to light. For one, I was very surprised and a little upset that my boyfriend didn't just want to talk, instead, he preferred to watch family guy.

Diversity Redefined

One thing I've noticed ever since I came to college. This is just my personal opinion.  Has anyone noticed all the blacks and Latinos who appear ALL OVER the catalogs of many colleges across the United States, particularly Ivy League Institutions? Furthermore, does anyone question the statistics that appear on these schools websites regarding the amount of minority students of color they accept? When you step on to your campus, does that 30% seem to look more like 10%? Ever wondered what that 30% really consists of?

Are we setting Ourselves back?

This past year of college has helped me learn a lot of things but has also disturbed and angered me in many ways. I go to a school that is predominantly white and I would think that the Hispanics who come to this school would (like me) try to associate with the Latino community. However, I have found quite a number of people who refuse to join Latino organizations on campus or who do not associate with the Latino community because they feel that it is a form of self-segregation. Are they serious?
