Blogger Still Down: Are You Going Through Blog Withdrawal?

What is that moan sweeping over the blogosphere? It's the sound of blog withdrawal as bloggers discover for the second day running that their Blogspot account is in read-only mode. Meaning; readers can access blogs hosted by Blogger, but writers cannot reach their dashboards in order to write a new post.

According to Blogger,

We’ve started restoring the posts that were temporarily removed and expect Blogger to be back to normal soon.

(Hey, how can the Blogger blog be updated!)

But that's cold comfort for writers who are itching to post a story or update their readers. They don't want "soon." They want "now."

Twitter has exploded with reactions to the down time:

  • The Rusted Chain: You want to see thousands of angry women? Break their blogs. *ahem blogger.com.* Get it together.
  • Texas Beth: Taken in the rain & through a window screen....pic I wanted to blog about today but Blogger is down. :(
  • Elle_dt: Not gonne even attempt blogger today!
  • SimplyKellyD: :Maybe those of us with non #blogger blogs should be blogging extra to fill the vacuum ;D
  • HeloRighetto: @Blogger HOW soon? when do you mean by soon?? today??? this evening???

How long would it take for you to go through blogging withdrawal? Five minutes of a server being down? Two hours without access to posting news? Three days of going blog-free?

@DabblerWordCraft--I use blogger and I have found that it's so much easier to write my stuff in WORD and then cut and paste it to blogger. Have you ever noticed then when you write it in blogger and go to preview it, it's all out of wack? Maybe that just happens to me.

I think blogger blows. I'm taking Laurie PK's advice and looking for someone to help me get my blog off of blogger and migrating to Word Press.

I've been earning a full-time living from my Quips and Tips blogs for over 2 years now...if they were down, I'd be going through more than withdrawal!

I started on a Blogger blog, but quickly migrated to WordPress. One of my major frustrations with Blogger blogs -- as a reader who likes to make comments -- are the hoops you have to jump through when you want to leave a comment.

So, I feel for you Blogger bloggers...and encourage you to use this as an opportunity to try WordPress! :-)

All good things,
Laurie

I was also frustrated by blogger being down (I literally stocked the blogger status page for three hours waiting for it come up)

Then I see that my new...of course long with pictures...post was gone!

Want to frustrate me...remove posts I took forever to write!

It was the comments that really got to me. Not only did it delete two posts of mine I had put up AND did not save them into my drafts, just simply vanished- the meltdown erased about 30 comments. For a give-away for my blogoversary. . . and I am searching but the comments are nowhere to be found on blogger's dashboard. That was the frustrating part of the meltdown and certainly makes a case AGAINST saving everything online.

I just moved to self hosted WP from Blogger....I love it!! I had been trying to figure it out too...but it's SO worth it!!

I agree that you should do it sooner than later. There was 1 click install on my hosting site, so in 5 minutes I had all my posts with clickable links, comments, pictures in my WP blog. It was awesome!!

I was advised not to go with a super popular hosting company since it's harder to get customer service.

I wasn't able to get my preferred domain either, but was able to get the same name as my blogger blog so that was good. Don't know that I'd got with a .net

Good luck with your decisions!!

I found out that blogger was down when I had a post I wanted to get out. I wasn't happy. I wanted to punch it.

I am definitely having withdrawals, but more just anxiety and frustration! I am in the process of moving over to Wordpress now... I can't wait until its said and done and I can put this blurp behind me!

ETA.. Sorry about the multi - comments, it is my first time posting one and apparently I didn't "get" how to submit!

Whaaa? I didn't notice a thing happen. I didn't post yesterday, but still, I should have noticed something odd. I think I'd be OK for 3 days max. Then I would spontaneously combust.

Well, that explains why I was suddenly able to get through everything on Reader and very little new has been popping up!

I'm not terribly great at blogging on a consistent basis lately. But I guarantee that if my blog was down, I would almost instantaneously have five posts that I just needed to do NOW! lol

I have to say... this is MOST unfortunate. I use Wordpress, and I know how frustrated I get when I have problems with my site that my tech support (hubs) can eventually fix. It would be hard to wait for THE MAN to get his butt in gear. Like being held blog hostage. TERRIBLE.

No, they didn't go up. I had to go back and republish (including the deleted ones.) Another issue is that comments made more recently on published posts were deleted. Seems like maintenance should go more smoothly than this!

laurie 5 pts

But yesterday's post is GONE, along with the comments form the previous post.
Ugh.
I've often debated whether I should continue to import my posts into FB but I'm glad I did - I just cut and paste it back into Blogger.

Anyone else strongly considering migrating after this episode?

When cable internet goes down, I get right annoyed, so I sort of know the feeling...

I started on blogger, went to typepad, where I had a pro level account that I shut down. When I started writing fiction, I found wordpress dot com the better option. And it has yet to crash on me, just sayin'. ;-)

I still have a blogger account, because as you all know, whether blogger or wordpress, remember part of the lyrics in The Eagle's Hotel California: "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave." I've looked at it, but... doesn't tempt me.

I hope you all come back up soon. After all, we need the reads, and we don't need any more heat contributing to global warming.

TOTALLY going for a silver lining here - but as someone that tries really, really hard to read all the blogs in her feed reader it has been kind of nice to not have SO many blogs to read today.

And now my moment of snark: When Blogger comes back up can all of you guys promise to get rid of your captchas & blog music??

Recently I took a self imposed week long hiatus from blogging - both writing and reading - to see what I would do with the time I usually spent in the blogosphere. I found that I really enjoyed spending that time pursuing other interests and being with my family. At the same time I itched to express myself and connect with others. When I returned from my blog blockade I was careful to create, and maintain, more of a balance between blogging time and family time and I've been really happy with it so far. Sometimes it's good to be forced to see how a change in your life affects you - you never know when it will be for the better.

It's funny, but I am mostly irritated because I have pre-loaded a bunch of "Daily Photo" posts to launch every day. I can't remember which pictures are coming, so I am antsy to see what I've already done...

I will say that every server goes down at some point, BUT that said, I still think there are so many benefits to self-hosting. And the longer you wait, the harder it is to move.

Annoying me way too much I'm afraid. I don't get a lot of computer time until after Charlie is in bed so I try to write and preschedule posts at night.

Seriously considering switching to WP even more now. Found a new Blog name I love but some stupid company in England owns the .com, at least until June 26th. .net is available though so I have much to think on.

Not so much going through withdrawal, cuz some of the authors I read also have facebook pages, but definitely irritated. I'm fairly new to blogging, so still trying to build mine up and this is kind of a setback.

My site was down a month or so ago when GoDaddy was having problems. It was like one whole Saturday (which isn't a day that I regularly post on anyway) and I was going CRAZY. I refreshed my site like, constantly.

I was okay with no Blogger yesterday, but I'm going pretty nuts today. Have a post sitting here that is already late to the party and the delay is killing me.
