Bloggers (and Their Kids) Loved Steve Jobs

I saw my first iPhone at a blogging conference. And my first iPad. In my mind, blogging and Steve Jobs are inextricably linked. And tonight the blogosphere says farewell to Steve Jobs.
We exploded on Twitter a little over a month ago when he resigned.
What's been amazing to me is the connection kids have to Steve Jobs. BlogHer Section Editor Melissa Ford compared him to Dumbledore and described her son's reaction when Steve Jobs retired:
Finally, I asked him if this was about something else; a stand-in issue holding the spot of something truly upsetting him, and the tears started choking all the oxygen out of his throat and he sobbed until he couldn't breathe over the idea that Steve Jobs would no longer be the CEO. I think it was partly about Steve himself -- a fear of how Apple will change -- and it was partly about the Wolvog as the CEO of an imaginary company.
And who can forget BlogHer Contributing Editor Shannon Rosa's son Leo appearing on the big screen at an Apple press conference:
I didn't know Leo, my son with autism, would be appearing on the screen behind Steve Jobs at yesterday's Apple iPad special event in San Francisco, not until I saw a screenshot of Leo on Engadget's event liveblog, followed by blogger Joshua Toplosky's remark, "Man this is actually really emotional ... Damn you Apple for making everyone here cry about the iPad."
It may not all have been Steve Jobs' doing. But it felt like it was. The guy changed the trajectory of how we interact with each other, with the world. He sort of changed the world.
Several people pointed me to Jobs' speech at Stanford University, which I just listened to for the first time. I wasn't a huge Steve Jobs fan until I heard this.
Farewell, man who changed our world. Rest in peace.
