Blogging is Hard

I started blogging some time in July of this year.  At first my curiosity for blogging was piqued by this rumor going around that there is money to be made blogging.  Then as I began pursuing my writing career it also ocurred to me that blogging might be a good way for me to practice, as well as market myself and build a following.  That might come in handy soem day when I finally publish my book right?

But the problem is this - blogging is hard.  I had done my fair share of research, so I didn't expect it to be easy per say.  But I did not expect it to be as mentally taxing and challenging as it has been.  SEO, followers, linking, page hits, it's enough to make you want tp let the bloggers blog and put away your laptop for good.  Well - maybe not the last part.

I began blogging here on BlogHer first, about trying to go "green", beginning a fitness plan, and eating organic.  That was my niche, and I figured it was broad enough that I should never run out of material.  It hasn't quite been working out that way.  I then launched my writing blog on wordpress, and as far as content goes I have been doing pretty well, I think.

So haw do you build your following?  How do you increase your page hits?  What about SEO - what is SEO??  HoOw do you get others to link back to your blog?  From what I can gather it seems a lot of commenting.  You comment on other people's blogs and hope they visit yours.  You comment on social networking sites and hope others will visit your profile and click the link to your blog.  You list on directories among the hundreds maybe thousands of other blogs and hope you're noticed.  But surely there's must be an easier way?

Until I find that better way........I'll be posting comments.  See you on the message boards.

Hi. I'm also new to writing in the electronic world rather than the glossy printed one, and finding it equally as challenging. Mainly the feeling that no-one will ever be able to find me in the first place, let alone enjoy my random thoughts. But it's good to feel part of a group, so thanks. Boundaries are good - I think that's a mum thing and a writer's thing!

for SEO on BlogHer ( http://www.blogher.com/search?cof=FORID%3A11&q... ). A good web source of information is the High Rankings Advisor ( http://www.highrankings.com/newsletter/ ). A book I recommend is Building Findable Websites ( http://buildingfindablewebsites.com/ ) by Aarron Walter.

If you build it they will come works for blogs if you have interesting content, so keep writing those great posts and keep putting up good information.
