Blogging Niche / Blogging Voice

Find you niche.  Find your voice.

Both seem to be two of the most important things to do when it comes to writing or to blogging.  I don’t know that I am doing a good job at either, and I need help.

I originally wanted to start blogging to reach out to other moms (yes another mommy blog) and try to be as honest as possible about my feelings and the extreme trials of raising a special needs child; I wanted to vent myself.  In that, I wanted to give other moms the ability to feel validated in their unspoken feelings that they may have as well.  Finally, I wanted to be a quasi-resource for other special needs parents.  The problem is, well, I think the problem is that I’m being to broad?  Because of that, sometimes I think I might like to write a serious informative article-type post; other times (most times) I’m gearing towards humorous and still others I don’t know what the heck I’m writing as. (For examples, my blog is www.GeneralHysteria.blogspot.com). Coupled with this, I find that I’m extremely “paranoid” of some rouge teen finding this blog about my son in the future and hurting him with it; or my neighbors finding out that (I’d love to) blog about them.  I can't seem to blog without continually thinking of the ramifications.

I have 1 or 2 readers (don’t laugh) on an RSS feed, and I don’t want to lose them.  They’re important to keep, while I also try to reach out to others.  I wonder, what are your experiences?  How did you find your niche, your voice?  Did you start more than one blog to meet your goals?
