BlogHer '08 - All About The Parties!
by Kristy Sammis

We know how you like to party.

But do YOU know how many opportunities you'll have this year to rock on wichyo bad selves?

Let us count the ways...

Thursday, July 17
The Newbie Mixer
8-10 p.m. @ The Rooftop of the Westin

As the BlogHer Conference continues to grow, it grows ever more intimidating for the uninitiated.  And while we have always welcomed blogging newbies (and introverts), this year we thought -- why not break the ice for all the new-comers right off the bat?

BlogHer is therefore hosting a little mixer event open to all who have never attended a BlogHer Conference before.  Those who choose to attend can feel comfortable looking around the room and realizing Hey, no one else knows anyone, either! And if you're new to BlogHer AND San Francisco, the room offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

It's also a good opportunity to meet the BlogHer co-founders and staff.  (Just sayin'.)

Light fare and no-host bar.

Thursday, July 17
The "People's Party"
8-10 p.m. @ The Westin

Not an "official BlogHer event," but we are just so tickled that these fabulous ladies got together of their own volition to host an on-site event and invite everyone! It's do-ocracy, cocktail style.

So if you're looking to party pre-event but can't join us for the Newbie Mixer, this is a super alternative. Get the skinny on the People's Party here.

And thanks to those hostesses with the mostesses: motherbumper, One Plus Two, The Bloggess, Oh, the Joys!, IzzyMom and Velveteen Mind.

Friday, July 18
Welcome Cocktail Reception
6-9 p.m. @ Ruby Skye

BlogHer's gettin' flossy.

Ruby Skye is a hot-hot-hot club in the middle of Union Square.  It also happens to be located directly behind the Westin, so it's barely a block away from the hotel.  (AKA "stumbling distance". Ahem.)

Ruby Skye is a beautiful and funky venue, created from a converted theatre.  Its lush colors and architectural details give the space a great ambiance even without 1,000 lovely bloggers chilling and milling about.

Not only will there be a signature cocktail and cool pro-green demos, but also a few television celebrities.  (Details on who's coming later!)

Check out the club's photo tour here

Heavy appetizers will be served. Each guest will receive two drink tickets at the door for cocktails. Non-alcoholic beverages will be free. No one under 21 permitted without guardians.  BADGES REQUIRED FOR ENTRY.

Saturday, July 19
Closing Cocktail Reception
6:30-9:30 p.m. @ Macy's

Destined to be one of the most interesting cocktail events we've ever hosted, all BlogHer attendees will be given exclusive entry to special areas of the Macy's store.  (Note: Macy's is located across the street from the hotel.)

Upon entering the building, BlogHers will be ushered into a cordoned off area of ladies handbags to enjoy a "bubbling" reception.  After a few more special stops -- each with drinks and snacks -- the party will conclude at Macy's seventh floor, overlooking Union Square.

As a point of reference, the seventh floor is furniture.  And Macy's is roping it off for BlogHers, allowing us the most comfortable lounge experience ever.

We are looking forward to the photos.

Heavy appetizers will be served. All beverages will be free. Absolutely no shopping required whatsoever. BADGES NEEDED FOR ENTRY.

So that's what we've got planned!  If you know of any additional event that is open to all BlogHer attendees, please let us know.  Just leave a comment below and we'll add it to this post.

The People's Party!

Thank you so much for mentioning our party!

By the way, I fully intend to be at both the Newbie Mixer and The People's Party Thursday night because I'm a newbie, too!  That's one of the reasons we are having the party right below the Newbie Mixer--  so that everyone can float back and forth.

Also, since so many people are arriving late, the Westin has agreed that we can keep the space until midnight, so The People's Party will be rockin' til the breaka-breaka midnight...  which is that much closer to dawn.  ;)

Come one-- come all!  No need to get gussied up, either.  Stumble off the plane, throw your stuff in your room, come in, grab a drink, and say hey!

Can't wait!!!

I may just do it

Megan, my flight arrives at 11 p.m. so stumbling off the plane will be in order. I may just take you up on that: throw my stuff in my room and try to avoid one of my three sleeping roommates and come have a drink.  Thanks for the invite!

You need to do it.

At the last People's Party our flight was a nightmare so we didn't get in until almost midnight.  The People's Party was still going strong.

Everyone needs a drink after a flight like that.

PS.  I will be at all of these delicious parties.  Except the newbie one.  Unless there's booze there.  Then I'll pretend to be new and lost and wear someone elses nametag.

Yay for parties!

You guys are great -- thanks so much!

Where do you get the FUN badges?

Where do I get the way fun badge that says "I am going to be drinking at Blogher"?  I'm not an alcoholic, I just want to know.  Thanks.

What are these badges you

What are these badges you speak of? I plan on coming to all of these. I'll be dodging in and out and stuffing my face.

I got your badges right here!

Look, the only badge you need is the one that says "I'm Going to The People's Party!"  That suggests that you will be

  • drinking
  • dancing
  • stuffing your face
  • pretending you don't have kids
  • making a fool of yourself on our live feed camera
  • knitting
  • spelunking
  • and whatever else all those BlogHer badges say

But yeah, I'm going to snag one of those "I'm deactivating nukes at BlogHer" badges, too.  Cant' resist.

If you want The People's Party "I'm Going" badge, you can get one here, by the way.  Right after you get a good BlogHer badge.

Please say there will be dancing.

Must. Shake. Moneymaker.

We are hiring a DJ for Saturday night's
party!

So I expect a shaken moneymaker or two...

I'm There!

At all of the above.

I'm so glad the newbie mixer and the people's party are being held nearby to one another so I can float between them.

I can't believe we're only one month out. Am so excited.

It's on and popping!

I love a party!  I am so ready! Bring it ON!

Love,

Babz

What is a no-host bar?

No need to worry about that anymore, Amy in
Ohio!

We need to update this post, because we got a sponsor for the Newbie Mixer, so the no-host bar is now going to be a hosted bar :)

However, for your future reference: No-host is when you pay for drinks yourself, hosted is when there is an open bar, where you don't pay for drinks.

My dreams are crushed

See in my mind I had no-host as just a big ol'table of booze and nobody "hosting" it - a free for all if you will.

Hangs head and looks for nearest AA meeting.

Can't wait!

Sadly, I won't be at the newbie mixer but absolutely plan to be at the other two! And for Sat. night, I am taking a red eye home so am already picturing the rock star moment as I stay as long as I possibly can, and then stumble out, grab a cab to the airport and crash on the plane home. I should be very productive upon my arrival and back to the real world of child-rearing and such. I am truly looking forward to meeting everyone!

So glad you're doing the newbie mixer!

I remember we talked about this at the unconference last year. Such a great idea, I think it will make a huge difference to folks at their first BlogHer!
