BlogHer '08: AnnouncingThe Newbie Mixer
by Kristy Sammis

Never been to a BlogHer Conference before? You're not alone.

I mean, you're really not alone!  There will be lots of first-timers at the conference this year, so we thought it would be nice to set up a mixer just for you before the conference kicks-off.

When: Thursday, July 17

Time: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Westin St. Francis

Who: Anyone registered for the BlogHer Conference who's never attended a BlogHer Conf. before

If you've seen the photos and followed the blog posts, you know that the BlogHer Conferences are all about making connections -- new and old alike.  But as our events get bigger and bigger, we know it can be a little intimidating for those who've never been to know where to begin.  ("So I show up...and then what?")

The first official BlogHer Newbie Mixer will be a fun, casual, low-key way to help all you new attendees get your feet wet with others in the same boat.  (You'll also have an opportunity to meet the company founders if you're so inclined.)

So, if you're thinking that maybe THIS is the year you'll finally be venturing to the BlogHer annual conference, we hope you'll plan to join us on Thursday night as well.

Details will be emailed to all first-time attendees a little closer to the event date.

Oh! How Lovely!

"BlogHer n00b" - a t-shirt is born?

I'm just sayin'. Wouldn't that be great?

I'm not a n00b but I wouldn't miss this mixer. See you there jamie!

I was just telling Kristy

I'm going to either figure out how to become a n00b or crash the party. So be prepared, it's been years since I crashed anything - I'm probably a little rusty.

Denise, everyone should meet you

As the Grand Highness of All BlogHer Community Goings-On (like that title?), n00bs should definitely have an opportunity to meet you, too. :)

This is a Great Idea!

I think this is a wonderful idea I would love to go to BlogHer '08 but it is intimidating...

Hi Diana - Hope You'll Consider It...

...it's a very different experience walking into a room full of folks who are feeling the same way you are. At least, that's the point of the mixer. :)

Plus, we were all newbies once. I first attended BlogHer in '06, and was super late, and had to walk into the ballroom already chock full of people I assumed already knew each other, and it was terrifying.

For like, 5 seconds.

BlogHers are a very friendly and inviting bunch. I felt at ease almost immediately (probably because it was amazing to be surrounded by so many women who were blogging -- not to mention the number of laptop stickers I saw with phrases like "knit or die").

In any case, if you have any questions about how things work, please don't hesitate to ask!

Can't Wait!

This will be my first BlogHer conference and I'm really looking forward to meeting some new bloggers.  Now I just need to get my room and find someone to share my room with me.  Oh and a badge to put on the blog...will be we getting cool badges to let folks know we'll be attending??

Badges Comin' Up!

Hi Katy,

Glad you'll be joining us this year. :) We'll get those badges going in the next couple days, for sure.

Also, not sure if you know but we do have a room-sharing forum: http://www.blogher.com/forums/blogher-conference/08-room-share-0

(We'll be publishing this link quite often, so expect more responses/replies in the coming weeks.)

Great on both parts!  Can't

Great on both parts!  Can't wait.

Can't Wait!

This is going to be my first BlogHer Conference and I am super excited. It was reading the live blogs last year that inspired me to start my site last Fall. I honestly can't wait to be around women how care about such things as SEO, social networking, and obessing over the number of pageviews. :)

I'll be there for the first time this year
too - Great Idea!

I know there are so many of my Twitterpals who are bloggers coming to BlogHer for the first time as well - and we're all thrilled that there's a mixer for those of us experiencing BlogHer for the first time.

What a great idea you guys had!

Can't wait to see everyone there.

I'll make it on Thursday, too!

Yes, great idea indeed!

Can't wait to meet other newbies.

Gah!

New, but I fear I will continue in my loneliness.  I can't get up to SF till Friday afternoon/evening.

We also have "Speed dating for BlogHers" kicking off on Friday, just as we did last year.

It's really dorky, but you will meet a bunch of people really quickly :)

So I'll be there soaking in every possible moment!

All of the comments/advice here have been great. Thanks, and I can't wait to meet so many wonderful women in one place! This is going to be awesome!
