BlogHer '09: Official Call for Volunteers. Get a Free Pass in Exchange!
*Update: The Call for Volunteers has officially closed. Thank you EVERYONE who submitted themselves for a BlogHership!*
You've already decided to attend BlogHer, and now you're working on the logistics: transportation, hotel (have you considered sharing a room?) and, most importantly, conference registration. So let BlogHer help (and in return, you can help us make BlogHer '09 happen)!
Each year, BlogHer offers very few highly coveted BlogHerships (free conference registrations) in exchange for being a conference volunteer. Opportunities include working the registration desk, liveblogging and mic wrangling (see details below). All BlogHerships are designed to cover the $300 registration fee only, and do not include travel expenses.
Registration Desk Helpers: This job encompasses more than being a friendly face – Registration Desk Helpers have the difficult task of coordinating check-in for more than 1,000 attendees, providing badges, tote bags and maps, answering myriad questions and being a general know-it-all (or at least knowing where to find the answers). The estimated time commitment is three (3) hours per day.
LiveBloggers: Can you type quickly? Do you have a knack for remaining unbiased? In this position, volunteers will create an official record of assigned sessions for both attendees and non-attendees to reference. You must transcribe the session as it plays out, not summarize or editorialize the discussion between panelists and attendees. LiveBloggers must use their own wi-fi enabled laptops. The estimated time commitment is two or three sessions (2.5-4 hours) per day.
Mic Wranglers: We won't require long legs or ballerina-esque moves, but Mic Wranglers will need to maneuver through rooms to deliver the microphone to attendees who want to make their voices heard. This task is especially important because it also affects audio recordings, so you'll need to be quick as a flash. Or at least quick-ish. The estimated time commitment is three sessions (4 hours) per day.
So, are you interested? If so, email our Volunteer Wrangler, Sizzle, at email@example.com and cc me (Jes Ferris, Conference Programming Manager) at firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your name, contact info, any relevant prior volunteerism, and which volunteer opportunity you're most interested in fulfilling. If you are applying to be a LiveBlogger please confirm your current ownership of a WiFi-enabled laptop, and if you've done live-blogging in the past (providing links is much appreciated). And hurry! The Call for Volunteers ends January 31, 2009.
