Despite the economy, those who are blogging about fashion and beauty mean business. They’ve carefully dug out their niche, detailing for you trends up top and down below – from shoes to flirty dresses to the latest hair and makeup. Some are even rewarded for it with brand partnerships, loyal followings and Fashion Week invites from major players in the industry. These bloggers have taken it all in stride, without losing their focus on the thing they’re most passionate about, fashion, and we’re applauding them for it. At BlogHer ’10, we’re featuring a session we’ve called: “This year, you’re in! Fashion Blogging is Serious Business.” Here’s the description:
According to the media, the fashion and beauty blog world is on fire. The hype: Bloggers are getting front-row seats at Fashion Week, they’re building goodie closets akin to Hearst or Conde Nast’s and the FTC Guidelines are a looming disaster! What’s the reality? Beauty and fashion bloggers start with a passion, just like most other bloggers. They also hold a belief that external transformation can trigger internal growth. And OK, sometimes there’s that front row seat at Fashion Week!
Meet the speakers:
Susan Wagner, managing editor of BlogHer's Style content, moderates this session. Susan gives wardrobe advice on The Working Closet blog at Work It, Mom, is a contributor at Cool Mom Picks, and is AOL’s Holidash blog editor. Her personal blog, Friday Playdate, chronicles her life, what she’s wearing and pretty Internet finds.
Jennine Jacob is the author behind fashion blog The Coveted, a style inspiration website. She is also founder of Independent Fashion Bloggers, a community where bloggers interested in pro-fashion blogging can share their questions, concerns and tips for a successful career. Jennine loves everything from site design to international fashion, plus gives beauty advice to boot.
Nichelle Pace, a self-proclaimed fashionista, began STYLEMOM as an avenue to prove that moms are still style conscious. She is a leader and evangelist within fashion communities, and has been interviewed by a number of publications, including Mashable and Parade Magazine, and was featured on CBS The Early Show segment “Moms, Shopping Deals and Social Media.”
Sarah Conley founded StyleITOnline.com in 2006, a blog that details where style, beauty and New York City intersect. Shortly after founding her blog, Sarah launched her career in social media, first as a community manager for Coutorture Media, and now as a Social Media Strategist at Attention focused on (what else?) the fashion and beauty industry.
Are you a beauty blogger, or are you interested in launching a fashion-related site? Do you regularly incorporate the latest trends into your personal blog? Have you ever gone into even the teeniest amount of debt featuring your favorite designer on your site? How many hats can one person wear, anyway? Join this session to ask your questions and share your stories about blogging the ever-changing fashion and beauty industry.
About the Speaker Spotlight Series: BlogHer is excited about our upcoming conferences this summer (yes, conferences, plural: BlogHer Business '10, White House Project Workshop and BlogHer '10 will all be taking place under one roof in New York City this August). Though we may still be a few months away, we figure it's never too early to begin introducing you to our speakers. Over the next many weeks, I'll randomly select a panel or two to highlight each Tuesday. Though the panels are randomly selected, our speakers are not -- we take great care in researching, considering and inviting speakers for each conference, with a special focus on featuring new and diverse voices. We hope you’ll learn a lot, think a lot and jump into lively conversations with these speakers!
