Conference Corner: BlogHer '11 Session Hashtags

At BlogHer ’11, each breakout session and keynote had its own twitter hashtag. This way, attendees could include their tweets in the larger #BlogHer11 stream, or they could hyper-focus on panels with things they were learning, people they were meeting, what they were doing, etc. A number of attendees have requested a full list of conference hashtags, so we’ve included them in the table below, organized by breakout session.THURSDAY, AUGUST 4th...more

PreCon Preview: The Write Brain

BlogHers are always interested in intensive programming about the craft of writing. So, for the second year we have an entire track focused intently on that, including a first-ever “double-wide” session on content development. And in addition to the ever-popular sessions on pitching your work for publication, we’re also offering a panel on how to write for the small screen. Yep: we’re exploring your Write Brain....more

BlogHer '11 PreCon Preview: The Social Media Geek Track

Every year BlogHer gets its Geek on good, with programming to scratch the itch of those of us looking to learn -- or fine-tune -- what we need to know about what's "under the hood" of our blogs. The tools we can use to do our online media-making are proliferating like mad, and with so much capacity shifting to mobile, everyone with a smartphone is an “early adopter.” That's a both a gift and a challenge: so much you can do, but also so much to catch up on! This year, we’ve split the geeky goodness into two discrete days of programming in the Social Media Geek Track....more
Oh yuch. Sounds like BlogHer required unusual massive advance planning which I didn't do.more

Hard-Earned Tips for Enjoying the Madness of BlogHer '11

BlogHer '11 is this week and with so much brainy estrogen in one place ... it can be overwhelming. This marks my fifth year attending and I've learned a few things that might help anyone looking forward with excitement and trepidation. The biggest surprise for me is always getting in touch with my inner wallflower. I'm a ballsy, brash, opinionated woman but folded with thousands of other ballsy, brash opinionated women, well, we tend to cancel each other out sometimes. So, I had to suck it up, dive in and pretend like I was cool too, and guess what? Nobody knew the difference. ...more
I can't wait to meet all the great bloggers I read online everyday. See you all soon.more

The BlogHer '11 Evening at the Expo: Don't Miss Giveaways and Goodies from our Sponsors

In a few short days we'll be seeing all of you in sunny San Diego for BlogHer ’11. This year we're introducing the first ever Evening at the Expo on Thursday August 4th from 6-8PM. We actually created this evening in response to the pleas of attendees who really wanted to check out the Expo, but didn't want to miss out on sessions to do so. So we created this two-hour slot when nothing else is going on, where our attention can be dedicated solely to checking out the almost 100 exhibitors! ...more

Conference Corner: What to Expect in Sessions

Every year BlogHer conference attendees ask what to expect during conference sessions. Sometimes because for many attendees, BlogHer is their first conference, but also because BlogHer events tend to be a little different than traditional conferences and seminars that many of our attendees have experienced. Our session format is typically very interactive, and our moderators hold different roles than some expect. Let me break it down: SESSION FORMAT...more
