BlogHer Original Post
Update: the BlogHer '13 Call for Ideas has closed. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this process.
It's time to open the BlogHer '13 Call for Ideas! BlogHer is and has always been the "conference the community built", and this is one of the key ways we are able to live up to that challenge. We know you have a ton of ideas for next year's annual event in Chicago, and we hope you'll share them and help us create the conference you want to attend!
This link will take you the submission form. You can submit as many ideas as you like. Please only submit one idea per form, though!
The Call for Ideas is open right now, October 17th, and closes at midnight on November 15th. We'll notify everyone, either way, by January 14th, 2013 and announce the initial BlogHer program at that time.
Submit any/all of the following for the conference program:
- Individual speakers you'd like to recommend (including yourself)
- Individual moderators you'd like to recommend (again, including yourself)
- Topics you think should be covered at BlogHer '13
- Full panel submissions you'd like to propose for program inclusion
The following BlogHer '13 programming elements are not included in this Call for Ideas, but we will launch the submission process for each of them early next year:
- Room of Your Own (ROYO) (more on ROYO here)
- Voices of the Year (VOTY) (more on VOTY here)
- International Activists (IA) (more on IA here)
You'll receive an email confirmation after each successful submission, with the important dates and deadlines you need to know, and all the contact information to send your concerns or questions or cat videos. Submit as many proposals as you like!
Need an explanation of the '13 conference tracks? Wanna know how to make your submission stand out? Want some tinder to spark your ideas? Just keep reading!
Wanna just get down to it and start submitting? We like your style. Click here to access the form.
The BlogHer '13 Conference tracks
Our mantra at BlogHer, our challenge to ourselves is "How can we get bigger, but feel smaller?" Part of how we do this is by offering ever more targeted programming across as many disciplines as we can accommodate, which lets each attendee build a conference schedule that fits their needs and interests.
We've deconstructed some of our most popular tracks to provide you exactly the information, innovation, and conversation you need to improve your skills, grow your blog, or strengthen your online community.
We are looking for your programming ideas in these topic areas:
Marketing & Monetization, Beginner and Advanced (two tracks): We are looking for submissions about the business end of blogging: brand creation, traffic building, monetization options and insights, and marketing strategies. There will be dedicated tracks for newer and more veteran bloggers, to serve different informational needs.
Tools & Technology, Beginner and Advanced (two tracks): We are looking for submissions about everything under the hood of your blog and social media platforms. We'll talk tech, addressing the hows and whys of analytics, code, design, and platforms. These tracks will also be divided by experience level, to make sure you walk away with exactly what you need to know to grow.
Interest & Identity: We are looking for submissions about everything that makes you, you. Talk niche, tribes, self, culture, hobby, craft, and more.
Photo & Video: We are looking for submissions about the latest techniques, inspiration, technical skills, equipment, styling, story-boarding, and even performance! We want to know if you can lead hands-on workshops or lively discussions. We are expanding our Photo & Video programming in 2013, so please propose anything from a snappy 30 minute presentation on the best iPhoneography apps to an intense 3-hour workshop on video post-production.
Politics & Activism: We are looking for submissions about on all things political, but also expanding into issues surrounding feminism, civil rights, crowd-funding, social philanthropy, and social change.
Writing -- Pitch & Publish: We are looking for submissions that delve into how (and when) to pitch different media outlets, including news, radio, television, magazine, and webzine, and covers book publishing -- including self publishing, traditional publishing, eBooks, and going blog-to-book.
Geek Bar: We are looking for submissions featuring your expertise on a narrow technical topic. Geek Bar sessions are short-duration and high-impact, delivered in small-groups with skilled instructors. As an attendee, it's your chance to bring your blog, your computer, or your iPhone and work with someone who can give you the exact feedback or instruction you need.
Writing Lab: We are looking for submissions featuring your expertise on a narrow writing-related topic. The Writing Lab also features short-duration, high-impact sessions, delivered in small-groups with skilled instructors. As an attendee, the goal of the writing lab is to help you grow as a writer, and will address writing technique, skills, and disciplines, obstacles, and challenges.
HealthMinder Day: We will be doing HealthMinder Day again, and we are looking for submissions that address everything about caring for yourself and caring for others (including special needs parenting). From the health technology driving the "Quantified Self" movement, to the promise and perils of blogging your truth about health-related issues, to the little ways we can add a sense of balance and wellness to our daily lives, this day digs into it all.
Style and Beauty: After the smashing success and inspiration of our 2012 BlogHer Fashion Show, we will be adding a style-focused pre-Fashion Show track on Saturday. We are looking for submissions that address the specific considerations of bloggers in this space...from business concerns, to content development, to cultural impact.
