Yes, even with a warning from BlogHer's Denise Tanton, this DNC goer got altitude sickness.

I guess it really IS the Mile High City.

While I rest up for tomorrow's coverage, please take a look at my interview today on CNN.com. Yes I fainted just after. Even with my altitude illness, I'm very glad I had the opportunity to speak about BlogHer and women voters. TONS of reporters are asking about women, bloggers, and how we vote. What would you like me to tell them next time?

Back to my sickbed. Can't wait to bring you more tomorrow!

I appreciate the link. I was thinking about this from a different framework and missing the much bigger picture as a result.

If you can stomach it, she's on post #109 ( http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2008/08/hil... ). Each post has links to all the previous posts.

In the little political world in which I circulate, I didn't have to deal with this, although I did read a lot of polls and surveys that indicate that Americans would not readily vote a woman into the executive branch. (This is perpetuated by women, too.) It's scary how deeply ingrained sexism is in people. At the same time, I've been disappointed by a lot of the feminist reaction to all of this, so I feel more powerless than ever. We all live with our cultural baggage based on our personal experiences, and it seems like there is not a lot of willingness to do the hard work to shed that. Maybe it's why it is so hard to get cohesion in progressive movements. Depressing.

It's funny, but I avoid a lot of liberal blogs, too. I guess that's why I missed this. I'll definitely check it out, though. And I agree 100% that it is a sad state of affairs!

It's rather infamous how many Clinton supporters abandoned the site during the primary season because of the vicious behavior.

Frankly I stopped reading a bunch of liberal blogs for that reason...and I avoided following some of the liberal digerati on twitter too because they were pretty insufferable.

I used to be a totally engaged Democrat. I served as my Assembly District's rep to the California Demo. Party executive board. I had already pulled back because of my BlogHer commitments, but this primary season has succeeded in making me avoid engagement as much as I can!

I think it's a sad state of affairs.

Suzanne, much of the sexism that came at me was done in a listserv of Ohio bloggers which I finally left because of the sexist nature of the interactions.  It was very, VERY bad.  There is some of it on my blog (in comments). I will write you offline about some other specific instances but it is out there - truly, and they see NO sexism - ONLY racism.

Hi Liz,

Can you point to some examples when Obama's supporters acted like sexist, misogynistic assholes? I'm racking my brain to think of some, but I truly can't come up with any examples from the Obama camp. It's not that I don't believe they didn't happen, I just don't remember it.

Sadly, I can immediately recall many incidents going the other way, and to be honest, that's why I flipped sides. Of course, now my brain may be blocking out the converse, so that's why I am asking.

Thanks,
Suzanne

PS - Great job, Erin! Feel better!

Waiting on an apology is futile. HRC did a brilliant job of unifying, which isn't her job, shouldn't have been assigned to or expected of her. She did it anyway, proving again, that she was the greater politician, genuinely forwarding what is important. I'll vote Obama because within the choices available to me, it is the wisest. But and this is a big but, I will always have preferred that it had gone another way.

Chelsea said it well, "Hero."

this Dem family will vote for Obama as soon as he declares the Clintons are not racists!  If not - it's McCain all the way.

However, Obama and his campaign manufactured false charges of racism against the Clintons throughout the primary which benefited Obama - and he's not likely to change the narrative he allowed.

Bill Clinton recently stated he was not a racist. Response from Obama?  zilch!

We don't blame Bill Clinton for not attending Obama's speech since Obama can't even admit it was wrong and malacious for his campaign to cast the Clintons as racists!

On Twitter, a good bloggy friend of mine in Ohio wrote something like - is there a single person in the campaign who isn't a whiner? And I tweeted back - you mean, in both, right?

Many interesting points, and I enjoyed seeing you on CNN.

I couldn't help thinking in the middle though, that *I'd* like *Senator Obama* to directly address his many supporters who have acted like sexist, misogynistic assholes - and continue to do so - and tell *them* that *that's* not OK.

If it's Hillary's responsibility to specifically chide her fringe, then Obama should do the same with his. Has he/will he address the rampant sexism and misogyny in America?

So sorry, Erin. :(  But hey - what are 3000 followers for if not to tweet you back to health.

Thinking of you.
