BlogHer Conference Update - - March 15, 2013

BlogHer Original Post

Happy Friday and welcome to the weekend! A special shout out to our Irish friends who celebrate St. Patrick's Day; don't get too crazy out there!

Okay let's jump in! There's lots going on here and I want you to be up-to-date on all things conference.

BlogHer Entrepreneurs '13First, in one week the third annual BlogHer Entrepreneurs will take place and we have some remaining spots available for the entrepreneur in you.

If you have some questions about the event and whether this is for you, we have answers! Check out Shannon's post and& register today for a day and a half of learning from the brightest minds in the business.

In addition to Shannon's post, Jenna had the opportunity to talk to both Michlle Magoffin and Nina Bhatti.

Michelle is an Entrepreneurs graduate and has an amazing story of change and development as a direct result of attending BlogHer Entrepreneurs for two consecutive years. Michelle never considered herself an entrepreneur, but, as she says, "hearing all the stories of the women onstage and at the conference who had succeeded on their own, or who were just getting started, was so inspiring. I realized that the reason I hadn't considered being an entrepreneur before was out of fear of the unknown, and I simply needed an education about that world. When I went to the second BlogHer Entrepreneurs conference, last year, I finally got the push and the help I needed to take the last step. I went out on my own three months later. I never would have done that if I hadn't attended those two conferences."

There is so much more of Jenna's interview with Michelle here and of course, there is still time to register and change your future!

Another great conversation Jenna had was with Nina Bhatti. Nina Bhatti is currently the founder of a mobile technology start-up in stealth mode. She was previously the Principal Scientist for HP Labs. She'll be speaking on our How Do Engineers Hire Developers panel on day two of the conference.

Here is just one of the questions Jenna asked Nina:

Did you ever have a great mentoring experience -- either as a mentor or as a mentee? Could you share a bit with us?

Sometimes we are mentored by a situation or a person. But they don't come dressed up with a sign that says "I'm here to mentor you", instead it's sometimes a painful process of asking you to leave your comfort zone. I call these mentors, "challenge mentors". They make me do something I have never done before. They push you, and that can be scary. But they also encourage you, they say "I think you can do it". One of my mentors said "you're capable of more, go in there and make something great happen" as he thrust me into a horrible dysfunctional team to "fix it".

BlogHer Food '13In addition to BlogHer Entrepreneurs, we are moving onward and forward with our BlogHer Food planning and have announced our closing party! Once again we are trilled to have this party hosted by Ree Drummond, Jaden Hair and Elise Bauer.

Besides the great food and company, we will also be featuring a great Austin cover band, The Grooves!

Stubb's is just a couple of blocks from the Austin Hilton where our conference is being held. So start thinking about eating delicious barbeque (and yes, there will be food for those who are not carnivores) and getting your groove on, Austin-style.

If you haven't already registered, now is the time!

BlogHer '13And not to be out done, we announced our Call for Volunteers for BlogHer '13 and there is still time for you to submit your name!

As we have said before and will say over and over and over again, without our volunteers, our conferences aren't possible. You can read my post for all the details, including how to volunteer.

Until next time...
