UPDATE 2/18/11 - The Call for Volunteers has closed.  Thank you everyone for your interest!

*******************************************************************************************************************

We are putting out the call for volunteers for this year’s BlogHer Food ’11 Conference in Atlanta and we have BlogHerships available! Each year, BlogHer offers very few highly coveted BlogHerships in exchange for being a conference volunteer. Opportunities include working the registration desk, liveblogging and mic wrangling.

What is a BlogHership, you ask?

BlogHerships are a way for people who cannot afford the conference pass to a BlogHer event to still attend. BlogHerships are always volunteer positions at the conferences. If we are asking for a significant amount of your time, effort or elbow grease to get something done at the conference, then we will compensate you with a full conference pass. All BlogHerships are designed to cover the $300 registration fee only, and do not include travel expenses. Below is a list of the volunteer positions and their descriptions that can earn a BlogHership, and therefore a full conference pass.

Mic Wranglers:

We won't require long legs or ballerina-esque moves, but Mic Wranglers will need to maneuver through rooms to deliver the microphone to attendees who want to make their voices heard. This task is especially important because it also affects audio recordings, so you'll need to be quick as a flash. Or at least quick-ish. The estimated time commitment is two sessions (2.5 hours) per day.

Registration Desk Helpers:

This job encompasses more than being a friendly face -– Registration Desk Helpers have the critical task of coordinating check-in for more than 500 attendees, providing badges, tote bags and maps, answering a myriad of questions and being a general know-it-all (or at least knowing where to find the answers). The estimated time commitment is three (3) hours per day.

LiveBloggers:

Can you type quickly? Do you have a knack for remaining unbiased? In this position, volunteers will create an official record of assigned sessions for both attendees and non-attendees to reference. You must transcribe the session as it plays out, not summarize or editorialize the discussion between panelists and attendees. LiveBloggers must use their own wi-fi enabled laptops. The estimated time commitment is two sessions (2.5 hours) per day.

If you are interested in a BlogHership, don’t delay and apply today. You have until February 18, 2011.

I registered as well...and applied for the volunteer position.

Will you let the applicant know if they have not chosen as a volunteer? Or is there a cut-off date that if we do not hear by then, we know that we did not get the volunteer positions?

Thank you Jenni. I believe my attendance at the conference (I've already registered and secured a hotel room!) will be pivitol! I came across BlogHer quite by accident on Facebook and saw a blurb about the Food conference. I was so excited, I registered ASAP!

I am so looking forward to the entire experience. I moved from Atlanta at the end of October '09 and have not yet returned, so it will be good to be back in "Hotlanta" if only for a few days. The energy in that city is electric.

Hello Valerie,

We will issue a refund to any of the chosen volunteers that require one.

This sounds like a great idea, but what about those who are interested in volunteering but they have committed to attending the conference and have paid already?

Is there a refund or other perk provided?
