Gigi, my five-year-old, wants to know everything about... EVERYTHING! Questions, questions, questions. all. the.time. I love her inquisitive nature and her thirst for knowledge, but boy can it be exhausting answering every question she has. So in order to help both of us out and turn her curious mind into actual factual learning, we made together an "Everyday Board." There are two important aspects of the everyday she needs and wants to know: Weather and Time. I broke them down on the board in 5 different ways.
Yay, back to school time! Sure, new stuff might soften the landing a bit for kids who are reluctant and cranky about starting the new school year. But what if you don't need anything to buy anything new this year? What if the school stuff they were just using back in June is still fine and acceptable for September?
I had a day off today so I rounded up the kids and we went on a field trip to Target. I had to return the Frozen movie I had purchased because a friend got it for my daughter. I had no idea that Target had a policy that electronics had to be returned within 30 days. Luckily they were really nice about it. Plus it helped that it wasn't open and in perfect condition. I went with my daughter this morning to get her school uniform jumper shortened. As I was helping put on the yellow polo shirt and blue and yellow jumper she said "Do I have to wear this? Why do I have to wear this?" I told her "Because all of the other girls at your school will be wearing the same thing. I need to get my bachelor's degree in order to get ahead in my job, but I didn't have time to go to a traditional college because I have two kids. (Man, I should like one of those commercials). So, I started what is called a hybrid program which is a blend of on campus classroom meetings with a strong online component as well. I take one class per semester, do a whole bunch of online assignments and drive 60 miles to campus 3 times a semester. On paper it doesn't sound too bad. In real life it is a different story. ...more
I am finally, finally back. We had a very challenging but overall very good summer and now the school year is looking really promising. A few adjustments, some more difficult than others, but overall I think we can handle it! And I've been making lunches and taking pictures of them, too.
