Tastes Like Donuts

I ran out of milk this morning.  We had soy milk and heavy whipping cream.  When I mixed it together, it tasted pretty close to regular milk.  Second son said it tasted like donuts.  First son agreed.  Yay! Victory for mom's frugal (and sneaky) ways.  Second picky eating trick: Melt together brown sugar/cream cheese/butter  and make a dip for raw carrots.  Second son ate a whole bunch of vegetables.  Score again for healthy mom!Goal today is play and have fun.  No guilt.  ...more

Holiday Baking: Gluten-Free Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

I have lots of favorite things, like Disney World and vampire romance novels, but Christmas might just top all of them. One of the joys of Christmas for me is making cookies. It is just so much fun cranking up the holiday music while dancing around the kitchen whipping up some yummy cookies. And, of course, half the fun is stuffing said cookies in my mouth while dancing around! (At least I am exercising!) ...more

The Best Apple Pie. Ever.

My mom makes the best apple pies in the world, hands down.  When I was a little girl, I would sneak a few of the raw apples coated in cinnamon sugar to snack on.  To this day, the smell of her apple pie baking in the oven is one of my favorite things in the world.  I used to be the one standing next to my Mama in the kitchen helping to roll out the pie crust, but I’ve been replaced my precious five year old.  Grace loves to bake and Nana loves her help.  Keep reading for the recipe!  ...more

Guilt Free Protein Cookies

We all know the saying, “a minute on the lips…a lifetime on the hips.” Unfortunately this is a true statement. What you consume dictates how you will look and feel. There are so many food options that we face every day that are laden with fat and calories. If you want to be toned and feel great, there are sacrifices you have to make. A Thanksgiving Dinner Roll Worthy of the Indulgence

I don't know about you, but I love bread. Sometimes I daydream about those long-ago days when I didn't count calories or believe strongly about adhering to a vegetable-dominated diet. The days of innocence, where I could consume a loaf of bread without a thought. Like I said, loooooong-ago. I was ten.Needless to say, I am really looking forward to eating bread on Thanksgiving. So that dough better be good. A dry, mediocre roll is not going to cut it....more
