Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake

When we were kids, all moms, grannies and aunties were making chocolate cakes like this one: chocolate sponge cake with buttercream filling (frosting), melting, smooth and very chocolatey. I don’t remember how many years have passed since I last tried a cake like this Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake....more

Black Bean Brownies

Some time ago I posted a recipe for Flourless Brownies containing pureed chickpea (garbanzo beans). So, I already knew this could work and didn’t hesitate at all to try to make Black Bean Brownies. They don’t contain any flour, so, I guess they could be called gluten-free (I’m not an gluten-free expert). They are also moist, fudgey, low-carb and high in protein and fiber. Instant coffee and rum are added to enhance the flavor of chocolate, but you can omit them if you don’t like them. more......more

After a few months after it came out in theaters, yesterday I finally rented Monsters University on DVD. Has anyone else seen it? The first one was perhaps my favorite Pixar movie ever, so naturally I've been itching to watch the prequel to it ever since it came out. I absolutely loved it and thought little Mike Wozowski was the cutest thing ever. I swear I'm just a 12 year old kid in a 27-year-old body.......more

Holiday Baking: Gluten-Free Chocolate Peppermint Cookies

I have lots of favorite things, like Disney World and vampire romance novels, but Christmas might just top all of them. One of the joys of Christmas for me is making cookies. It is just so much fun cranking up the holiday music while dancing around the kitchen whipping up some yummy cookies. And, of course, half the fun is stuffing said cookies in my mouth while dancing around! (At least I am exercising!) ...more

A few weeks ago, I started my surgery and anesthesia rotation for my internship. As much as I love emergency medicine, there’s just something about surgery and anesthesia that is equally as exciting to me. There’s actually a lot of similarities between the two – they both require constant diligent observation of your patient, you need to be on your toes at all times, and you have to be able to quickly adapt treatments to the status of your patient....more

Chocolate Fudge Brownies

These brownies are for the ultimate chocolate lover! They’re rich, dense, chewy, and oh so moist. Shortly after giving birth to H I was on a quest to find the perfect brownie recipe. I wanted a go-to recipe that didn’t come out of a box. After a lot of baking and researching I came up with this recipe. I’m no expert, but I think that the key is in good quality chocolate chips and a low ‘n slow baking method....more
