You're Not Alone

I was driving into Cambridge yesterday and I witnessed an absolutely glorious sunset.I’m a sunset kind of girl, myself.  I witness a mere handful of sunrises in any given year, because personally, I think life starts better at noon…. With that in mind, it’s certainly not the sun coming up that fills my heart, but rather the sun going down (since I’d rather not be awake while the sun is coming up…. ever)....more

I Don't Want My Kids to Be Popular

Lately, one of my daughters has been feeling a little left out at school. I struggle with a zillion concerns and challenges as a parent of five kids. I have endless goals and desires for all my kids, but having school-age girls is really bringing some specific challenges to light, especially as it relates to little girls. Here they are in alphabetical order just randomly thrown on the list: ...more

Pick Pick Pick

I remember being a child and seeing a small spot on the wall paper in my bedroom peeling up.  I couldn't seem to resist picking a that spot.  Slowly, because of my efforts - the paper began to peel more and more.  Until finally there was a large spot of wallpaper pulled, requiring my mother to eventually need to re-wallpaper the entire room. Why do we always tell a child with a scab not to pick at it? Because we know that one little opening can allow the germ to enter and cause an infection throughout the body. ...more

Security

My house feels like the safest on the block tonight.  I am currently dog-sitting my Mom’s dog, Keisha.  I also have a dog, Kloë.  I know, neither of them seem fierce….And neither of them look fierce….But when they bark when someone’s at the door, I feel very safe....more

Putting past successes behind me...

I'm beginning to think I'm a little slow on the uptake. (Very slow, actually, as it is taking me multiple days to write this one post -- and this about thoughts I've had since January 1.)As I celebrated New Year's Day, I seemed to be bombarded with God's message in Philippians:But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14)....more

My One Word: FEARLESS

When I first began thinking and praying on my one word for 2014 I never imagined that fearless would be revealed to me. In all honesty, when I began thinking along the lines of "fearless" - I had a moment.  I mean...Fearless? Really? You must have the wrong gal.  If there is one thing I am not - it's fearless. But it kept coming up: "Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged" (Joshua 8:1). "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7)...more

Call Me Ishmael

I was completely at a loss for what to write today.  I found WordPress’s and BlogHer’s prompts kind of lame, and as I’m sitting watching Downton Abbey (!!!!!!!) I couldn’t make up my mind on a topic.  Then I remembered that WordPress put out an ebook with a prompt for every single day of 2014, so I consulted it.  The topic for today was “Call Me Ishmael.”  The challenge is to take the first sentence from your favourite book and base your post around that.  At first, I de...more
