The Travelling, Crocheting Grandma.

For the last couple of weeks, it really has been a life of “anything goes”. I have stayed with a daughter who is on bed  rest to prevent a premature birth, with a daughter-in-law and my newborn grandson and helped out another daughter by babysitting while she and her husband accompanied a professional house inspector before buying a beautiful country home. I  have also kept busy by  writing articles, blogging and asking advice about publishing a book....more

Crocheting My Way To Freedom…

Freedom, freedom from buying gifts, that is. I stumbled upon a wonderful source of FREE crochet patterns for babies and children and I am excited to start making special outfits, jackets, booties and even little shoes. Usually, I crochet queen size blankets, cream coloured bed covers, Afghans, shawls, baby blankets, scarves , dish cloths and gorgeous hand towels but I have never considered crocheting anything else. Nine kids with birthdays, weddings and now grandbabies kept me crocheting constantly for years....more

Closet Sachets--Upcycled and Emblematic

Sometimes I don't know what my New Year's resolutions are until the year is over. 2011 was a year of going through my old stuff, sorting, deciding what to discard and what to work with going forward....more

All Tied Up

All Tied up in Knots I wield a stick with a hook at the end, and use fine soft beautiful yarn and tie knots with my hook, transforming the yarn into beautiful blankets.  Lately I’ve been doing more crocheting than I had in the past, because my hands hurt.  But having daughter ask for blankets for the babies spurred me into action and I’m now working on afghan number three.  This one is for Mr. Quinn for his big boy bed.   ...more

Got my craft on Today! My crocheted headband...awww yeah!

First off I would like to say that this wonderful project was not my own creation. Nope.  I went Stumbling around a few nights ago and found a great tutorial on how to make a crocheted headband.  I am not a great crocheter (is that a word?). I learned how to crochet in High School from a friend.  She was able to teach me even though I am left handed....more

Crochet Class #2

I'm ashamed to say that for various reasons I didn't do a single stitch of actual crochet practice this past week (though I did buy a great bag with tons of zippered pockets in which to store all my crochet supplies!). ...more

Crochet Class #1

I went to my first crochet class at Beehive Wool Shop today, and it was great! It's a very small class - only three of us plus the instructor - so there's a lot of time for personal help and attention. ...more

Tightly-wound

I met with my friend/future crochet class instructor yesterday, mostly to get to the bottom of my issues with gauge, and was told that I am possibly the tightest crocheter she's ever met! She gave me some tips that should help, though - tips on crochet technique, and also on experimenting with different hook sizes - so I'll work on adjusting my style. Hopefully I can learn to approach a more normal gauge range! ...more
