Matchy-matchy, no more!

mixing colors, mixing metals, navy and black, style, fashion, trends

Does anyone else have a mother who taught you when you were growing up that you must match your shoe color with your purse and belt? Did somebody tell you once that you can't wear navy and black together (If they told you you couldn't wear red and pink together, they were right!)? Or, have you ever been asked if you're a "gold" or a "silver" person? If you are like me, then you may have answered yes to the above questions. Growing up in the 80's and 90's, my mom always accessorized with gold jewelry, since her wedding ring was also gold.  Read more >

Does Fashionable Equal Confident?

building self-confidence, self-esteem, style, fashion, style,

As someone who is actually very strong and confident in so many ways, I feel awkward thinking and feeling this, let alone writing it for everyone to see.I often wonder how people develop their sense of fashion.I really have no sense of fashion. Mine is more like, sensibility. If it fits and is comfortable, I wear it. I am very bitchy if I’m uncomfortable. Who isn't, right?  Read more >

Putting My Fashionista on the Backburner

makeup

You could put Emmy in jogging pants, a stained t-shirt, mismatched socks, and craptastic shoes and she would still be stunningly cute. Sure, go ahead, add a mint green beret and an ascot. ADOoorrRABLE! What’s that you say? Glasses and a fake mustache? Sure, add that to the mix, she’ll look even cuter. Even when Em is running a 102 degree temperature, has snot bubbles (so heartbreakingly sweet on a toddler!) erupting from her nose, and berry yogurt smeared across her face, my little girl just rips me to shreds with her cuteness. Me? Not so much…  Read more >

A recent Slate article by Simon Doonan on Marilyn Monroe, "Marilyn Monroe’s Two Secrets," aroused the ire of many readers for its hidden title, "Was Marilyn Monroe Fat?" Doonan claimed to know the answer (No) because he was on hand (as an employee of Christie's auction house) to view some of her last possessions, including c  Read more >

Corporate wear, Office Chic, style icon, what to wear to work, fashion, style

Having been a cubicle rat for several years, I have learned that looking classy, fashionable and serious for the office is no mean feat. Many people often dismiss corporate wear as boring and stifling. Many ladies also stick to the safe haven - by wearing black most of the time. Indeed it seems hard to juggle sartorial sense when your professionalism is on the table but I thought it's time all of us get some inspiration for our office wardrobe with reference from Olivia Palermo!  Read more >

Fashion Industry, You're Fired.

body image, fashion, Fashion Industry, shape, size

Both music and fashion reside under an aging idea that they decide what is hot and what isn't. In reality, the big guns in both industries are severely out of touch with changing social climates. Old concepts don't hold true anymore. Runways don't decide beauty in clothes any more than they do in people, and people with normal average sizes have a harder and harder time finding clothes that are flattering/fitting because they are all designed for people considerably smaller.  Read more >

Mix and Match Holiday Outfits

shopping, holiday outfits, clothes, fashion, shoes

If you are anything like me, I have to really think about the purchases I make when it comes to clothing. I love fashion but I am also practical when it comes to how much wear I will get out of what I am buying. I love the holiday evening dresses just as much as anyone, but the truth is, I will wear it once maybe twice a year at most. I just don't have those types of occasions that often. So dropping 100+ dollars with a pair of shoes and clutch and accessories to go with it, makes me cringe. That's why I'm all about separates!  Read more >
