An “Overly Protective” Mom and No Regrets

As a mommy, responsible for and always protective of her little chicks (no matter what age), I made decisions that today I still stand by—right or wrong. And my decisions, then, labeled me “overly protective.” Once I even heard those heart-piercing words “I hate you! I will never forgive you!” Hearing that hurt more than my child could have ever imagined. But today I have no regrets. I made my “call”—yay, nay—with good, sound reason. I followed my heart. I heeded that quiet little voice from deep inside, that gut wrenching twisting in my insides. Sigh!...more

Is there someone there?

But then an even more impactful thought came to me. What if you have something to say and nobody is there to hear you?  To respond to you….to smile with you …to laugh with you..or just listen without criticism…. That would  be (or is)  just plain crappy! ...more

Ruminating on Legacy

I've been thinking lately, chalk it up to withered vines and unexpected new blooms. I turned 38 last month and, not that the age 38 is any great shakes, I've realized some things. Life isn't what it seems, or rather, our potential isn't what it seems. It's easy to get caught up in people preconceiving what we can or can't do, or protesting that time, money or circumstance make something other than exceptional the only possibility. I am realizing, trite as it may sound, that every day is a chance to break free from the rut, succeed beyond expectations or means....more

Low carb cheesecake

So I'm trying to come up with a low carb cheesecake. I LOVE carbs. I have such a hard time trying to stay away from them. So usually everyday I bake cupcakes or cake or a pie anything sweet that I can make for my hubby and kids. But the down side is I cant stay away from them!! So this morning I tried out making some banana cheese cake in muffin tins. Mind you i have never made cheesecake before. but it seemed like it wasn't going to be hard. Ive read plenty of cheesecake recipes before....more

A rose by any other name...

I was recently emailing with one of my friends that I have met through blogging. In conversation, she said, “We bloggers are a resilient bunch.” I had to stop and read that sentence multiple times, as it threw me for a loop. I kept questioning the fact that she called me a blogger. Am I a blogger, I wondered? I while I have been blogging for a year and a half, I still don’t think of myself as a blogger. I don’t feel like I have earned that tittle. I simply think of myself as someone who loves to write, and loves to connect with others, online, through words....more

Would I Be Friends With The Me of Yesterday?

Absolutely not! When I think back of the person I was yesterday, I can say without reserve that I would not like Me. Obviously still young and immature, a common liar (just to save my own skin), manipulative (just to gain the upper-hand), conceited (though I hid all my insecurities), and untrustworthy (having respect for no-one). No, I would not choose me as a friend today. Interesting, though, most women I’ve spoken with tend to feel the same way as I do. More interesting still, most men tell me that they didn’t have a problem with who they were....more

Time is NOT on Our Side

I don't know what is it about time and the way it can pass so quickly sometimes and go so slowly other times.  It takes forever and  I mean FOREVER to grow up and get through school.  Waiting to get a driver's license at 16 takes oh so long.  But finally, FINALLY it happens!  It seems to somehow take longer still to get to Halloween and Christmas each year when one is a child.  Time drags and lags and takes its own sweet time.  The exception is the summer when one is a child and school age.  Time speeds up then....more

The Magic of A Typewriter VS A Computer

So my ten-year-old grandson asks me if I have a “typewriter;” I sure do! And I proceed to pull out my old electric one, buried deep in the closet, a Brother AX-10. I dust it off, plug it in, slide a piece of paper and start typing…tap, tap, tap… And it still works. “Wow!” my grandson exclaims, eyes alight and a big smile. “This is so cool! I read about these in a book!” he says. His mother, my oldest, alert and listening, says, “OMG, how old am I!!!” She wants to know?! I knew her day for asking would come....more
