I'm crazy, crazy for feelin' so....

My husband, Marc, and I were in the kitchen preparing dinner.  We were going to be smoking lamb chops on the Big Green Egg.  But, since we made a turkey a few days earlier, he was going to warm some of it up as well. ...more

Empty

My son Lucas has only been to my parents house one time. Given the circumstances, once is enough. He was almost five months old and it was a trip made out of necessity. There was much work to be done....more

Unintentionally Raising My Menopausal Blood Pressure

12:20 p.m., empty and hungry, I stood in front of the refrigerator blankly staring in, listening to the automatic ding, ding coming from the fridge—alerting that I was wasting precious energy. I stood there silently crying, trying to decide just what I wanted to eat, or if I should eat at all! I finally took out some leftover grilled flank steak, held the plate in my hands, thought a moment, and put it back. Then I took out a flat of eggs and held it in my hands; I thought another moment, and then put them back too....more

What’s Holding You Back?

When we think about the things we want to accomplish in our lives, there always seems to be a big ol’ “but” involved. “I want get a house, but my credit is too bad” or “I want to go back to school, but I don’t have time” or “I want to get that promotion, but I don’t have enough experience.” My goal is to change that “but” into “so”. And that “so” must be my action plan. Once I give myself an action, I will challenge myself do it. I want become free of my credit card debts, so I’m going to create a 12 month repayment plan....more

For Father's Day: A Museum of One's Own Redux

In honor of Father's Day, I offer one of my favorite blog posts, A Museum of One's Own: Love Letter to The Nelson.  I do so because my father is the heart of that post and because he is visiting the Nelson today courtesy of my brother who is visiting from California.  My son will accompany them, so three generations of my family will stride the halls of that magnificent museum.  The v...more

when it rains it pours....

From the day my husband, Marc, walked into his house for the first time, he was plagued by leaks.  By the time he met me, he was able to rectify some of them.  However, over the ten years we have been together, he has continued to do, as I call it, “LSI” – leak scene investigation.  Despite the fact that we have put on a new roof, used a million tubes of caulking, redid our balconies, and reinstalled the sliding glass doors, water continued to come into the house.  Each attempt decreased the water flow, but the damage continued.  As a last resort, we were advised th...more

The one car couple

My husband and I are now empty nesters. Woo hoo! We raised our glasses and toasted that both our children have jobs and paychecks. One just graduated from college and the other is halfway through. That is the good news. Here is the bad news. We have one vehicle. So you ask….Why did you give away your cars to your children? They have jobs, they can buy their own vehicles?! We decided, as a couple, that it would be easier, initially, for them to get on their way without any drama, to take the two cars and get to work....more

fire walking

fire walking There are two posts last year for May (pre-Moxie) and two posts for June on this blog. Only two. That period of time - from the day of Moxie's birth (May 7) ranging through July, sailing past August and well into September was an incredibly intense period for me. Intense on a level at which I think it quite literally changed my life. It was like walking through fire....more
