Let the Good Times Roll with a Bang!

Since, polishing off the turkey, surviving the Boxing Day havoc, I began to clear the presents under the tree. and making room in the cupboard for my new dish set.  As I did this, I glanced to discover my lonely shooting range gift certificate, and glanced at my husband nestled on the couch. Perhaps, today would be a good day to fire off some guns?...more

Do You Have A Bucket List?

I am a firm believer in if you can dream it, you can do it. So this got me thinking what do I want to do in my life, because I better start dreaming about it. Better yet, I should write it down. Even better, I should share it with my loved ones. So I sat and took 5 minutes and wrote down 10 things that I want to do and then asked my husband to do the same. We then exchanged lists. This is what my husband told me about my list, "I can see you doing all of these"....more

Is there anybody out there? Nod if you can hear me.

It’s funny. I think of myself as a fairly technical and handy person.  That is, except when it comes using the telephone. I don’t know what it is about the phone.  It isn’t a new gizmo or gadget.  It shouldn’t be difficult to use.  But, to me, for whatever reason it is.  I guess I am just not telephone savvy.  Call waiting still throws me for a loop, I always lose someone.  When I try to transfer a call at work to another person’s extension, without fail I always end up hanging up on the poor person I was trying to transfer.  The only way I can manage a conference call is to use a call in number. If I try to coordinate conferencing in two lines on my own, the result is never pretty....more

My daughter wants to know if people will eventually evolve to the stage where no one ever dies. Will we die or will we change, is how she phrases her question, and, just for a moment, I have a vision of people shedding their skins and emerging butterfly like into the next stage of their lives, or slowly, over the course of a few years, growing an extra limb or the ability to see through walls.  ...more

Hello, my name is reality (Part III)

Parts I and II are here. ************************** My daily stops became part of our routine. I could tell she was having a hard time adapting to the reality of her new circumstances, though. Her family visited regularly and she put on an optimistic face, but the permanence of "I may never walk again" is a hard pill to swallow for anyone. ...more

Hello, my name is reality (part I)

I've been blogging for a while but only alluded to some of my past.  This material is heavier stuff than I normally post but I felt like I couldn't discuss my future without the relevant context.  So, my blog will be taking a slightly different turn for the moment.  Welcome inside my head. **Certain elements of this story have been changed to protect patient privacy.** I was 17 when I met them....more

An Idealistic Christmas List

As, I finish the last-minute wrapping, baking, and dream of boxing day sales. I look forward to a Christmas with an open heart, merriment, and wonder of a child.  And with those child-like eyes I’ve made my own idealistic Christmas list: 1.  End World Hunger 2. Free Effective Health Care for All 3. World Peace 4. Equality for All People 5. Good Governance 6....more

The "second child" syndrome

During these days of Christmas, I remember a couple of years ago when we were waiting on our daughter to make her arrival. She'll be two in January, and you know what that means. When's the next one coming? Are you thinking about having more kids? How many years are you thinking between kids? Have you thought about having another one?...more

Heart Smile

I am not a big Christmas card person.  I have never sent out holiday cards, nor honestly do I plan to start.  Unless the cards feature pictures of my friend’s children or their pets, I don’t really pay much attention to the actual card, or the preprinted message.   These messages just don’t seem real to me.  They seem so generic....more
