I live in Los Angeles where saying that you don’t like movies is tantamount to claiming atheism in a church. But I don’t like movies, generally speaking. In contrast, I quite like TV. Does this seem weird?...more

Which Summer Movies Do You Want To See?

I smell popcorn! It's late spring, and the thundering herd of summer blockbuster movies are lining up to clamor for your attention. All the studios are hoping for a box-office-monster hit, so they're piling on the stars and the special effects to get people's butts off the beach and into the theater seats. Nobody did it better than Steven Spielberg, who basically invented the summer smash hit with "Jaws" in 1975. His movie literally scared people out of the water....more

Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers": Just, Awful [Review]

I went to see Spring Breakers late last night with one of my oldest friends. Written and Directed by Harmony Korine (KIDS) and starring Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, and James Franco, the movie has had people talking since its cast was first announced. Much like everyone else in the theatre, we had a high expectation coming into this film. After all the hype, I was really disappointed in how much it SUCKED. Nostalgia Machine: On Re-Watching "Girl, Interrupted"

Those of you who are fairly new to my blog may not know this, but on days when I’m not busy kicking the patriarchy square in the nuts or deconstructing inaccurate Facebook memes, I like to indulge in a little bit of nostalgia. Well, maybe a lot of nostalgia. Then I tweet extensively about my my indulgences, and sometimes end up writing about them here.Which is all to say that I re-watched Girl, Interrupted the other night and now I want to talk about it....more

"The Host"- Better Than "Twilight", But No Standing Ovation

“The Host” is an American science fiction film, adapted from the Stephenie Meyer novel of the same name.  Meyer is also the author of the well-known series, “The Twilight Saga”.  I’ve read all of the “Twilight” books, and like many others, I have to say that the novels were IMMENSLY better than the movies.  I can’t stand Kristen Stewart, and of course she was cast as the main female protagonist....more

A Normal Woman's Guide to the Oscars

It's Oscar Time! Take my excitement for what it is: a mumbled sentence.  My plane ride yesterday + an accidental overdose of Benadryl has left me a trainwreck today.  Ughhhh....Here it is: Your normal girl's guide to the Oscars. I am not an industry insider. I haven't seen all the nominees.  I do not own a designer dress. "Designer" for me means something from The Gap.Here we go:...more
