Film Review: "Hysteria" is feminist fun in the Victorian era

If you are in need of endless laughs sprinkled with a bit of feminist history, this one’s for you. Inspired by true events, the British romantic comedy, “Hysteria,” is written by Howard Gensler and Stephen and Jonah Lisa Dryer. This film takes a riotous look into London during the Victorian era and the presumed incidents that lead to the accidental invention of the first vibrator. ...more

How To Make the Perfect Mate

I watched Weird Science for one reason and one reason only: to learn how to create the perfect significant other. Here are the steps you need to follow: Cut out pictures of what you want your significant other to look like (e.g., eyes, hair style, etc.). Cut out pictures of the other traits you like (e.g., E = MC2 for intelligence). Feed the pictures into your computer scanner. Place a Barbie (or Ken) on a Life board game. Wear a bra on your head. Take a pic of you wearing the bra on your head a...more

Why Is It Harder to Suspend Disbelief When We Watch Porn?

Going to a play or movie almost always involves some suspension of disbelief but the same is not true for porn. For whatever reason, audiences want to believe the people they're watching are attracted to each other (even if only on a physical level) and do truly orgasm. Why is that? It's not like people watch Dexter and say, "this sucks! He's not really killing people!" ...more

Disneynature's Chimpanzee- Great Breastfeeding Message For Kids and Adults

Brian and I took the kids to see Disneynature’s Chimpanzee on opening day.  It’s really no surprise we loved it. We knew it was going to show the story of a dominant male adopting an orphaned chimp, and it was truly beautiful. What I was surprised about was how eloquently the documentary covered the topic of breastfeeding. Oscar, the three-year-old chimpanzee was shown breastfeeding throughout the day. The narrator explained that Oscar eats solid food, but is not nearly to the age of weaning....more
