Music Monday: Colours (Captain Cuts Remix) - Grouplove

In my opinion, this is one of those rare instances in which the remix is better than the original song. Don't get me wrong, Grouplove is great, but there's something about this mix that makes it impossible for me to stop listening to. ...more

A performance unlike any other...

I've been doing a lot of singing the past few weeks.  From "Gloria" in the Salt Lake Tabernacle with Lex de Azevedo's Millennium Choir, a benefit concert for The Road Home (homeless shelter) and a live recording of our concert at the Waterford Concert Hall with the Sally Bytheway Chorale (and another concert at the Assembly Hall still to come) to our fancy Christmas stake fireside here at home...I've attended a lot of rehearsals and performances.  And although I do somewhat regret turning down the in...more

Ho Ho Hanukkah

On Friday when I picked up Paigey from preschool her teacher handed me her lunchbox and said, “I didn’t know you guys celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah.”To which I answered, “We don’t actually celebrate Hanukkah. Whoever might have given you that idea?”She and I smiled down at Paige, who practically started whistling and kicking the dirt to look all innocent....more

[Video] The Guillemots: I Must Be a Lover

I've been sick for the past four or five days so I've just been lazing around wallowing and grumbling at anyone who walks by me on the couch while I'm either listening to music or playing the Sims. I'm sure you wanted to know all that. (While I could honestly just post every Dear and the Headlights song ever, I think I'll go with something I've been listening to constantly while couch bound.)...more

A Little Music Therapy For Ya...

A little music therapy does the soul some good.  After cycling down this downward spiral, followed by cycling up only to be bombarded with what felt like a million circus distractions all within the past month or two.  I decided to do a mini post featuring songs that help me keep on trucking and remind me that when I'm having a rough time (no matter how long it may be)......It's only temporary, and I have much more highs in life to look forward to.Enjoy1) Michael Franti & Spearhead - Hey Hey Hey...more

The Gift of Words

No matter how bad life is, I can turn to my writing and pour my soul into my words.   Writing literally saved my life when I was a suicidal teenager.  When there was no one to talk to, I poured my despair into the words.  Writing let me live one more day and one more day and one more day until I could find other things to keep me going.  ...more

How I Ruined Jay-Z For My Children

On Thanksgiving morning I posted the Jay-Z song "Forever Young" to my Facebook wall. I see a lot of people post videos that they feel are meaningful, so when I came across the Jay-Z song I thought it was just perfect -- a good way to express the sadness I'd been feeling all morning about a recent loss our family has experienced. My children disagreed....more

iPod Therapy

Are you someone who doesn't just listen to the music, the music is really the soundtrack of your life? That's me too! I remember when the Dateline Timeline questions would be posed and I always could nail the year by the music clue.  Seriously, my own life is a timeline set to music. And being this way meant I was Queen of the Mix-Tape throughout the 80's. ...more

Meatloaf May be Bad but I Love Him and It

Went for lunch at the tiny diner in our town today.  It's Remembrance Day here and  as the services had just finished, it was packed.  And, as I usually do, to the amusement of G....more
