I Googled "most popular new year's resolutions." I found a usa.gov (here) website that lists Popular New Year's Resolutions to "help you achieve your goals in 2015." It got me thinking about resolutions I wanted for myself. For me it's about setting goals, not changing myself. There are the ones that I usually go for. Right about now your social media timeline is filling up with reflections on the past year, Statigr.am videos, optimism about the year to come, and of course, New Year's resolutions. In recent years I haven't been one to make big resolutions at the onset of a new year. I've found that subtle changes seem to work best for me. But that doesn't mean that I don't set goals in place. Many of you have likely already declared your New Year’s resolutions. In typical fashion, I am running a bit late. This is particularly amusing to me and slightly hypocritical given that my first resolution for this year is: Don’t be late.
I myself stopped making New Year’s resolutions years ago, when I realized I had never followed through on a single one. I attribute this to the fact that I simply made them because it was a new year and didn’t really have a stronger motivator than that. Now, in lieu of resolutions, I set goals; and I set, review, and/or revise them once a month, rather than once a year. ...more
