Great American Patriots + Patriot Act, ctd + Jingoism

How does our beloved American congress respond to Bibi's blatant disregard for US interests?  For his recent public dismissal of our Prez?...more

Sunday night breaking news

So, Sunday night after lugging everything in the house, I checked Twitter and saw that Don Lemon from CNN tweeted that the President was going to make an announcement about something. I ignored it, until my sister texted me and told me to put on the news. So Osama Bin Laden is dead. Obviously, this is something that everyone has wanted for the last 9 1/2 years. He's the mastermind behind 9/11, and without him, the entire Afghanistan war wouldn't have had to happen. But, and I know it's not just me, something feels really strange about being excited about someone's death....more

Team Obama Delivers Osama! Haters Sit Down & Take Note.

At  11:35 PM EST Sunday night, President Barack Obama addressed our nation and told us that, hours earlier, US forces had killed Osama Bin Laden and had taken his corpse into custody.  Over the past 10 years, the US has spent considerable time and energy searching for Bin Laden.  These efforts have been costly, both in terms of lives lost and treasure spent.  We have waged a deadly war in Afghanistan, which to date has claimed the lives of 1461 American troops and over 8800 Afghan civilians, and which has been financed to the tune of $4.8 billion USD....more

Mission REALLY Accomplished: Osama bin Laden is Dead

So who was this guy who so hated the U.S., yet worked with us early in his life?PBS has a bio that is informative but may contain errors.Seems he was killed about a week ago according to what Pres. Obama said.  The ops started last August.  Last week President Obama determined he had enough intelligence to order the human staffed U.S. ops mission that attacked house in or near Islamabad where bin Laden had been hiding. ...more

Like Kids, Pets, Africa? There’s a Charity for That!

I hate to sound like a broken record - but - everybody isn't qualified to run a charity. It is not necessary to start your own corporation to accomplish something or to steer funding to a specific need. At least once a day I receive a call from someone who wants to start a charity to fulfill some personal need or to accomplish a specific project. Others feel they need to do so to appear philanthropic or to use celebrity power to create awareness and large sums for a righteous cause....more

UPDATE to Military Families Forced to Leave Pets Behind in Japan

Immediately following reports of, and my blog post commenting on, the inability of military families to evacuate on government flights with their pets, an official government document, updated as of the evening of March 21st, was sent to me. This document stated that families could bring a maximum of 2 pets, of a certain type, on certain flights under certain conditions or they could finance their own evacuation. While this is better than nothing it is a far cry from perfect and still pointed to the need for a closer look into and reform of evacuation and disaster preparedness issues....more

Cyber Bullying

My son came to me a while back about a kid at his school. He was distressed about the fact that this kid was posting stuff on his Facebook wall. The majority of it was through an app on Facebook that asks certain questions about different Facebook friends, and the person answering has the option of answering “yes” or “no”. On his wall, it says “Little Johnny has answered a question about you....more

The Eleventh Commandment: Thou Shalt Have Health Insurance

Growing up, the first commandment in my family was “thou shalt have health insurance.” This sacred precept was invoked whenever I became itchy at a job or felt the urge to strike out on my own. “Consider what would happen if, God forbid, you got into an accident,” my parents would say. “We would have to sell the house.”...more

We hate them for their freedom?

Ok. Did I miss something? The entire time George Bush was in office, all we heard from the GOP was "Freedom! We want people in the middle east to have freedom". As you know, Friday, after 18 days of peaceful protesting, the people of Egypt forced their 30 year dictator, Mubarak, out. Young people, in the streets, demonstrating for what they want. A revolution right before our eyes. Fantastic right? Wrong. People at CPAC barely mentioned it....more

Stopping The Spread of Cancer by Blocking One Rogue Gene: Will It Ever Get Developed?

What if the time came when 90 percent of cancer patients could survive having cancer? That would be astonishing, and very hard to imagine at this point in time. But a new study has opened the door to that possibility, and it could be in as little as 10 years that this discovery leads to big changes in the treatment (and survival) of cancer. ...more
