A Mom’s Guide to Working Out at Home

I’d like to say that I have a rockin’ body, but that would be a lie. These days, I can’t even say I have a rockin’ mom body. But it’s resolution time, so I feel like I have to try – at least until February or March when everyone else gives up on their own resolutions and I can feel less guilty about my failure. It doesn’t help that we are canceling our gym membership (I blame the gym’s childcare center....more

My Daughter is a Nut!

I say this with love. Some days, I am completely floored—often with laughter—at her completely skewed approach to life. Just the other night, we were having a nice time together watching television—I was crocheting, she was on the computer....more

Watching Death

My kids and I recently witnessed a death.  They don't know it.  That is because I lied to them.We were leaving a warehouse-type store after picking up my eldest daughter's glasses, miniature plastic sculptures that have changed her life.  For the first time in a long time, she could see clearly beyond a few feet in front of her.  As we walked to the parking lot, she repeatedly lifted them up to see the difference.   Blurry.  Clear.  Blurry.  Clear.  She was delighted....more

Father of the Year, or Creepy Man at the Playground

The other day Rob and I took the kids to the playscape at a nearby mall. Within five minutes, Rob was the pied piper to half a dozen kids who were alternately chasing him and being chased in a colossal game of hide and seek. Our boys, of course, loved every minute of it, and I loved watching how other kids were drawn into the mix. My favorite moment: twin girls followed him, saying, "Monster! Monster! Chase us!"...more

What Is Up with Sizing?

I don't know what size I am.This is not because I've changed size. I've been the same weight and shape, basically, since my teens. Now, I started out in a size 10-12, but I wore my clothing much looser back then (per the fashion), and it was a revelation to me that I was actually an 8. And I'll believe it (why not?). I'll believe that I've been an 8 this whole time. Sure. That's basically what I've been wearing since I found that the size fits me....more

My Family is a Pack of Wolves

When my dog, Bear, was nine months old, he tried to kill me. Well, maybe not kill me. But definitely teach me my place in the pack – under him. There were lots of clues before it happened. While he was sweet and submissive with my husband, Bear wouldn’t listen to me, would growl at me, try to stare me down, and guard his food from me.In Bear’s view, he believed that our pack should be like this:1. My Husband: The Alpha Wolf2. Bear: The Middle Wolf3. Me: The Omega Wolf...more

Just a few things I've learned so far from being a parent!

He's only 5  and  this is just the beginning.  I don't know what's in store for me, but this is what I DO know!SACRIFICES THAT I HAVE MADE THUS FAR....Sleep  This goes without saying.....more

Survival of the Fittest

Yesterday was a rough day. I didn't even get a chance to bore you with a blog. I spent the whole day writing an ebook for a nameless employer for which I will get no credit and very little money. Welcome to the new Internet opportunities. The poor kids were out of their minds with boredom, but what could I do? I was on deadline....more
