Silent Meditation: Spirituality for the Religiously Wounded

Some of us can't go to church anymore. Some of us straddle multiple sides of the religious fence. Some of us have difficulty defining ourselves within one specific church context....more

While we were praying...

My family is a family of faith.  We believe in and love the Lord and strive to please Him in all that we do.  Because of these convictions, our kids are attending church, reading Bible stories with us, learning to pray, and hopefully soaking up a lot of the things that we believe.  Whether or not you are a person who believes in God, I think you might like hearing about some of the funny things that have happened in our home....more

Reading "Christianity? The First Three Thousand Years"

This books goes back to the Christian roots in Greek culture and Judaism. It also traces the versions of Christainity that existed and still exist alongside the main stream of Christain orthodoxy. There were many ways to believe and many ways to be Christian in its early years. This book also explores the Eastern brands of Christianity that ended up being the . Eastern Orthodox Church. So far (it's really long) it is interesting to see the different modes . of belief and worship. I am learning so much. I really recommend this book. It puts a lot into perspective....more

Do you believe in God ?

I am guessing that in other countries you might be spared of answering this question since it would fall in the space marked “private” and thus not be asked at all. In India, not so. Indians pretty much ask each other anything. Nothing is considered off limits. I usually find it very difficult to answer this question whenever anybody poses it. My true answer goes beyond a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. I can’t, however, explain to people, to their satisfaction, what I mean when I say that I’m spiritually inclined but not religious. ...more

In Defense of the 'Unladylike' Christian Woman

A few months ago I wrote a couple of blogs about men, women, sex, marriage, masturbation, infidelity and Christianity. They were widely read, my blog stats were happy to report. I received some great feedback, too. And a half-joking guarantee I’d never be invited to speak in church in any of the southernmost states of the U.S.A. And that’s quite okay. And then, there was this - emailed directly to me, not left as a comment on the blog:Dear Jo,...more

Yellow Witch Cancer Prayer-Pass her on to someone with cancer, Let her reach around the world!

Hello All!Below is a poem called “Yellow Witch”.   I am going to post it several times throughout this week.  I would like to see it re-blogged and sent to as many cancer patients as possible.  I want her message to help someone with cancer.  Even if 1 person out of a thousand were to receive the miracle and be healed, she will have achieved a Job Well Done.   Please, pass her along.  Help her surf the web and land on the computer of someone who needs her magic....more

I feel the beat, the rhythm of what we call lifeAll life shares this pulseIntricately inner-connected, a map of veins pumping lifeDoes a flower cry when it is plucked?  I do not know.  The flower is here for us to enjoy the beauty and scent.  It paints our world with wonderful colors and smells.  A beauty meant to be shared and adored.  Our responsibilty–to replace what we take.  Taking care of our world.  Making sure it will continue to reproduce the beauty of life, painting the ground beneath us.  A bed of flowers...more

The Enlightened Middle Majority and Why “The Sides” Are Alienating Us

Never in a thousand dreams, would I have imagined myself a political blogger.  I may occasionally dangle my participles and I don’t know what up is.  I’m literally the farthest thing from a political pundit, and I’m just as shocked as my 7th-grade English teacher, to whom I still owe a report on Greek mythology. I’m just a mom who wants to hear from someone who makes sense, who gets me. Until very recently, when “My Friends Think I’m The Only Liberal They Know....more
