I'm Single, Not Divorced, and why must you know, Ms. Nosy Parker?!

I must confess that up until recently, I did not pay much attention or care about personal data that are required for so many standard forms: medical documents, school forms, intake information. I have to admit the recent addition of the option - to the effect that 'one prefer not to answer' or share one's gender - to most forms rather intriguing. If we're being so nebulous about our gender(s), does this option extend to other facets of our lives, such as our status? ...more

Always The Bridesmaid...and Godmother...and Party Planner, Never The Bride Or Anything Else Particularly Cool

Firstly, please forgive me for the cliche title and secondly, before you judge me as a jealous, wicked stepsister type, hear me out. I am so very happy for my friends. They have found wonderful men to share their lives with and I am honored to stand by them while they start their new journeys. I am also thrilled that some of them are popping out babies...on purpose. (Confession: I don't know if I'll ever get used to that. It still makes me shudder, cute as they are. )...more

The Lies Single Women Believe

Lies cloaked in popular beliefs are hard to recognize as lies.  Media messages say love, sex, and romance are the ultimate high, while applauding a lifestyle of casual sex and living together that often destroys intimacy and fulfillment.Recognizing the lies is a first step in walking in truth — truth that sets us free to experience true love, in healthy ways, along the pathway to lasting fulfillment. ...more

I'm 44, Single, and Happy (Believe It or Not)!

I am a 44-year-old woman and I’m single. Never been married. No kids. Living life solo. I don’t say this to elicit pity and I also don’t wear it as some sort of badge of honor. I’m just stating a fact. It is a reality that many people live with daily. I stress the word live because that is what many of us are doing -– living. We’re not cowering in a corner, weeping because we haven’t started families. We live. Oddly, many around us don’t see it this way. ...more

Hugs and Champagne

I’ll admit that I am having a bad day. Like, a really bad day. One of those two anxiety pills kind of ones. It’s this time when, while I don’t normally wish I had boyfriend, I do right now. Maybe not even a boyfriend. Just someone to put their arms around me, tell me it’s all going to be OK and kiss me on my forehead. Someone who will text me during this terrible day with a smiley face. Someone I can turn to when everyone else is turning to me....more

I don't date...

SHUT that door, Girl! ..and Other Thoughts On Love

Recently, I had a conversation with a good friend about her relationship--just girl talk, nothing special. We discussed the normal stuff: how deep the feelings were, was there a possible future? and of course- how good the sex is. *chuckle*...more

Single and Childless in the South

The great majority of the time, I love living in the south. The people are friendlier, life goes by at a slower pace, cost of living can’t be beat, and my family has been here since the 1700′s – the south is part of me....more
