Dear July,

We are officially in the second half of the year and It stuns me how time so gracefully slips through our lives like water in our hands. We have seen the seasons change from bundling layers while  shoveling snow covered grounds, to running out the door rushing toward the sounds of the ice cream truck in efforts to get a sweet cool treat against the heat. We have said good bye to the wind nibbling our ears, and smiled while welcoming the suns kisses on our skin. ...more

Being Single ≠ Being Broken

This past weekend, I attended our church conference's Annual Camp Meeting.  This is a time during the year when church members from churches all over our conference (TX, AR, OK, LA, NM)  gather together in Athens, TX for worship.  You get to see people you haven't seen since the previous year, and meet new faces as well....more

An Exclusive Excerpt of Finding Mr. Righteous

A few months ago my first book, Finding Mr. Righteous, was released on Kindle and hardcover.  A Christian-in-name-only, I dated freely in spite of my insecurities. An Atheist. A Catholic. A Quaker. A Preacher. A Jew. Some gave me the answers I yearned for, while others left me with more questions....more

From my personal blog. My laughter echoed into the frightened silence on the other end of the phone.“Oh, come on,” I said, not realizing that the lack of response wasn’t forced. “It’s funny now, but all that stuff you said when we were kids was a joke, right?”Again, there was only silence. Finally, he said, “I don’t like to talk about that anymore. It was scary.”“Right,” I said, still laughing. I finally realized he wasn’t, nor was he working to hold any humor back. “Wait, are you serious?”...more

Living with less

I always had the impression that I was pretty good at spring-cleaning. Never had any qualms about throwing away bags full of the old papers and pamphlets, conference materials, note pads from previous work interviews, and business cards that had somehow accumulated in the drawers of my nightstands....more

365 Reflections - Reflection 2

I am sure at times others wonder what keeps us creative folks from just doing our thing. "C'mon Lisa, how hard is it to just write?"  I've only committed to once a day and only ten minutes at that. Well dear reader, there are obstacles  - big and small. This morning for instance, I was settled in at my desk with hot tea and toast and I had to install updates before my computer allowed the free form of thoughts. I could not postpone the updates anymore and rather than being afraid of a forced shut down while I am reflecting, I took the time to restart....more

This House is Clean

The other day I did a cleansing in our home — I lit a white sage smudge stick and went through every room in the house, smoking away any bad vibes and clearing the air for good times and feelings. At the end of the ritual I put cups of sea salt in the four corners....more

Game Theory

Want to play a game? Sure you do! We like games, don’t we? First, we need to decide what kind of games we like or otherwise it won’t be much fun.Me, I’ve never been a fan of “Risk.” I can see very plainly that others enjoy this game very much (Putin comes to mind) and it’s still on the shelves so somebody is buying it. It’s just not my kind of game. I guess winning isn’t worth the effort to me. (Same thing with Chess. Apparently I’m not the conquering type.) ...more
