Homophobia and transphobia in sports are not confined to the professional and collegiate levels, however....more

My Son Broke up With Baseball

My son said he didn't really want to play this year. With heavy hearts, we accepted his decision. He's played every year since T-ball started.  Every summer's schedule has been dictated by practices and games.  I've spent many afternoons sitting in bleachers watching the sky, wondering at what point they actually call a game for lightning.I've cheered for my little boy at every at-bat.  I remember vividly the day that it clicked for him.  The day that he realized that you are supposed to play your position and not run all over the field chasin...more

Calling the shots

WhereParentsTalk.com by Lianne Castelino So my littlest guy had a huge moment in the sun (literally and figuratively!) last night!  He's 11 and was most thrilled when I told him a few months ago that the new baseball league he and his brother would be playing in this year also trained umpires to work league games.  Both he and his brother would be eligible to learn to umpire, if they so desired.  What's more, they would both be paid for their efforts. ...more
